Virtual Tour of Gainesville Campus Expansion Video Transcript
Home to nearly 8,000 students the University of North Georgia's Gainesville Campus expansion has allowed the university to meet both the access and attainment of higher education needs and goals of students in the northeast Georgia area. UNG's allocation and renovation of the former Lanier Technical College property on the east side of campus was meant to address the growing needs of the Gainesville campus.
The biggest of the newly transformed spaces is the 71,242 square foot Health Science building. On the lower level of the health science building lies information technology staff on the Gainesville campus. Within this area is a new server room that provides data support for the entire university as well. Specifically, designed areas to accommodate hardware configurations, computer testing and computer repair are housed in this area as well.
The Department of nursing is located on the upper floor of the Health Science building. 16 simulation stations provide state-of-the-art instructional equipment that will be shared by students on all campuses. Two 100-seat lecture rooms will allow for substantial growth in the nursing cohort to supply the growing demand for nursing graduates in Northeast Georgia. To meet the growing demand for areas where students can gather and collaborate on projects multiple spaces have been designed for each building. The health sciences building features three large lounge spaces where students can study or meet casually. In addition to the new lounges there will also be a new food court area.
The Arts and Technology building houses Continuing Education, Visual Arts and the Institute for Environmental and Spatial Analysis. A considerably larger area for Continuing Education classes workshops and other events is featured in the front area of the Arts and Technology building. The Visual Arts Department as well as IESA are natural fits to utilize many of the high-ceilinged areas of the former mechanical shops found in the building.
The first building to be renovated was Student Health Services. The Health Center provides walk-in and buy appointment services to all students.
The most transformative space in the Gainesville expansion is the Film and Digital Media building. The new building features three sound stages with the largest measuring about 2500 square feet. It also has a writer's room, three dressing rooms, two-tiered theater seating classrooms, a computer lab, two private editing rooms, a color grading and sound mixing room a makeup room and a craft services room.
The new expansion is now a seamless addition to the current UNG Gainesville Campus. The modifications and expansions of the campus have allowed for departments to be consolidated under one roof, which will ultimately add to efficiency and success of faculty staff and students for years to come.
