The Wall That Heals Video Transcript

[UNG President - Michael P. Shannon, Ph.D.] - Hello my name is Mike Shannon and I have the privilege of serving as the president of the University of North Georgia the Military College of Georgia.

Today I extend a heartfelt invitation to you your families and our entire community for a profound and moving experience here on our Dahlonega campus beginning October 31st. We will host the wall that heals a replica of the iconic Vietnam Veterans Memorial found today in Washington DC.

This event is an opportunity for our community to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers and to learn more about the history and the aftermath of the Vietnam War. This traveling exhibit spans more than 375 ft in length and Rises to 7 and a half feet tall at the Apex and bears the names of more than 58,000 men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Ladies and gentlemen it's not just a memorial, it's a powerful testament to courage to sacrifice and to the enduring cost of Freedom. Among these thousands of names are those who once walked here on our very campus. UNG student students and alum who answered their nation's call during a very tumultuous time in our history. These brave individuals were more than just scholars, they were patriots who embodied the values of service and sacrifice that the University of North Georgia holds incredibly dear.

They are alumni and they are our heroes. So today ladies and gentlemen I ask you to please come and join us where you will be moved and where you will learn here on the campus of the University of North Georgia. Please visit our website for more information and I look forward to seeing you for the wall that heals.

Thank you and take care.
