Notes

  1. It should be emphasized that this is a typical program of study leading to the BS in Chemistry. A student could satisfy all requirements for the degree in four years by taking the courses indicated.
  2. Students may choose courses other than those indicated to satisfy Areas A-F of the Core and the upper-level requirements in the major.
  3. It would be possible to take the courses in a different order but attention should be paid to the prerequisites or corequisites associated with many courses.
  4. Elective (upper level) indicates any 3000-4000 number course; Elective (any level) indicates any 1000-4000 number course.
  5. University of North Georgia students are required to complete ENGL 1101 and 1102 in their first 30 attempted hours.

What can you do with a career in chemistry?

Students graduating from UNG with a B.S. in Chemistry go on to pursue careers in chemical industry; work for local, state, or federal agencies; or pursue advanced degrees from professional or graduate schools.  For example, recent chemistry graduates have obtained jobs with Johnson & Johnson, Aeon Global Health, Ciba Vision, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Centers for Disease Control.  In addition, other recent UNG chemistry graduates have gone on to pharmacy school at the University of Georgia and graduate schools in chemistry such as the Georgia Institute of Technology, Vanderbilt University, the University of Georgia, the University of Florida, and the University of Tennessee.
