    Information Assurance & Security Minor

    Information assurance is about assuring information and managing the risks related to the use, processing, storage and transmission of information and its security.

    A minor in information assurance and security is designed for students who are interested in exploring opportunities in information assurance and network security as a career or to support their current major.

    Students minoring in information assurance and security explore 5 courses in the topic including information security, computer security, computer forensics, management of information security and network security.

      Topics include file types (text, image, compressed, encrypted), operating systems basics, discovery of digital evidence, computer forensic tools, network basics, network tracing, network log files, network sniffing/trapping, legal issues, case studies, and computer forensics procedures.

      Prerequisite: CSCI 1301 or CIS 3000 with a grade of C or higher

    • CSCI 3550 - Management of Information Security

      The course will provide the student with an understanding of the principles of information security management that are commonly used by organizations. Topics include access control; communication security; risk management and business continuity planning; policy and standards, computer architecture and system security; security laws and regulations; application program security; and computer operation security.

      Prerequisite: CSCI 1301 or CIS 3000 with a grade of C or higher
