Alumni Weekend at the University of North Georgia (UNG) Dahlonega Campus is always full of events, but a notable addition to the 2017 celebration, scheduled for April 21-23, is a first-of-its-kind concert aimed at welcoming back alumni and their families.

This year, the UNG Alumni Association will host a live music and family fun event on Saturday afternoon featuring performances by alumni Shawn Mullins ('90), Jay Drummonds ('91) and Wayne Baird ('89) and Dahlonega native Kurt Thomas. The event, which is free for Alumni Association members, runs from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Non-members can call the Office of Alumni Relations at 706-864-1547 or visit the Alumni Relations website to join.

Wendi Huguley, UNG's director of alumni relations and annual giving, said she is excited to host the new event for Alumni Weekend.

"When I think of what I loved about my time as a student at UNG, one thing that jumps to mind almost immediately is the music. In my mind, a Friday or Saturday night at Pine Valley meant time to unwind with friends, occasionally good food, and lots of great music," Huguley said. "Our university has had great musical talent throughout the years, and we want to celebrate those musicians with this event. We look forward to seeing UNG alumni and their families on the promenade."

In addition to the concert, the event will include kid-friendly activities like bounce houses, free popcorn and cotton candy, caricature artists, games, concessions and more. Association members who plan to attend are encouraged to pre-register for the event ahead of time; membership will be verified the day of the event at check-in.

Additionally, Alumni Weekend 2017 has a full slate of activities and reunions.

The Nighthawks Athletic Club Annual Golf Tournament on Friday morning provides the traditional start to the weekend; other events set for April 21 include the Golden Alumni Luncheon and the former student athlete and alumni reception at the Nighthawks baseball game.

On April 22, events in addition to the family concert include the UNG Alumni Association Awards Luncheon, Memorial Retreat, the UNG Outdoors canoe trip, All-Alumni Mixer, and reunions hosted by the classes of 1977, 1987 and 1997.

The weekend wraps up on April 23 with the 2 p.m. Corps of Cadets Military Awards Review, which is open to the public, and several additional Corps of Cadets events.

For more information visit the Alumni Weekend website. A schedule of all Alumni Weekend events is available on the UNG Alumni website, along with online registration for events requiring fees or registration.
