University of North Georgia (UNG) professor Jeff Repko is being featured in Pennsylvania College of Technology's series, "Material Matters: Past, Present, Future."

Repko's "In Proximity" is on display Oct. 23 to Dec. 11 in The Gallery at Penn College as part of his residency. He will teach a series of workshops based on the history of industry in Pennsylvania and the innovations taking place.

"I hope that viewers can bring their own experiences into the work and that creates discourse between the viewers," he said. "I think any work that can create dialogue is valuable in a time where we focus on divisions and difference."

During the workshops, Repko will do hands-on demos with digital fabrication tools. Participants will see how to use a laser cutter and a computer numerical control (CNC) router, which is useful in cutting wood and other materials.

Repko, originally from Pittsburgh, explores notions of industry in his work and takes influence from stories he heard about the area while growing up. His sculptures and paintings draw inspiration from modern abstraction and industry, he said.

The exhibit, reception and workshops are free and open to the public. For more information, please visit The Gallery.
