University of North Georgia (UNG) cadet Devin Krass has received a $2,000 scholarship from the Coast Guard Foundation. Krass was eligible for the nationwide scholarship because both of his parents have served in the Coast Guard.
"I'm really thankful to have that money," said Krass, a sophomore pursuing a degree in political science with a pre-law concentration. "It allows me to focus on my grades and genuinely enjoy my time at UNG. It helps cover some of the gaps for me and my family."
The Wilmington, Delaware, native is a company medic and squad leader for Golf Company in UNG's Corps of Cadets. His four years of training guide dogs through The Seeing Eye nonprofit organization was part of what made Krass stand out when he applied for the scholarship. Krass was part of a Delaware chapter of New Jersey-based The Seeing Eye.
"It meant a lot to me to be able to raise dogs that could help someone who really needs them," Krass said. "Knowing these dogs were going to do so much good for somebody meant the world to me."
