Professor's call to action against misconduct published widely
Dr. Sarah Young, assistant professor of political science at the University of North Georgia (UNG), is shining a light on faculty sexual misconduct in academia.
She and Dr. Kimberly Wiley, assistant professor at the University of Florida, co-authored the article "Erased: Why faculty sexual misconduct is prevalent and how we could prevent it," which was published in the Journal of Public Affairs Education in February. Since then, 13 other scholarly journals published an adapted editorial version of the original manuscript.
It is unprecedented in the 200-year history of public administration research in the U.S. for a letter of this kind to be published in multiple academic journals, Young said.
"They recognize the importance and the salience of this issue," said Young, who is also assistant director of academic engagement at UNG.
Young expressed appreciation to Dr. Dlynn Williams, Department of Political Science and International Affairs department head; Dr. Carly Redding, director of Academic Engagement; and others at UNG for their support of her efforts to shine a light on this challenge in the field of public affairs.
Students help design logo for nonprofit
Visual arts students at UNG had the opportunity to help create a new logo for the Beyond Dementia Coalition, a nonprofit organization that is based in Gainesville, Georgia.

Students from UNG won five awards at the Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, Georgia, in November.
UNG named Fulbright top producer
UNG is providing transformative experiences abroad for alumni as a top producer of Fulbright students. The university earned this distinction for a ninth consecutive year and tied for third among master's institutions with four selections.
