The University of North Georgia (UNG) earned the 2022 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Connecting Communities Award. The award is presented each summer to the PBC member institution that embraces the NCAA Division II core value of community engagement, bringing the institution and the local community together.
The Nighthawks hosted a 5th Graders' Day Out in association with Lumpkin County Schools on Nov. 30. All fifth-graders from the Lumpkin County School System visited UNG's Dahlonega Campus for a tour, lunch in the dining hall, and the men's basketball game against Toccoa Falls College. After the game, the UNG men's basketball team signed autographs and thanked the community for its support.
The goal of the event was to provide the students an opportunity to visit a college campus, meet student-athletes and enjoy a collegiate athletics event.
Northeast Georgia Health System has renewed its support of UNG Athletics for another five years and will also support a wide array of other programs at the university through the partnership.
Fall teams prepare to start seasons
Three UNG teams are gearing up for full fall seasons, with multiple others slated for short schedules ahead of their official seasons in the spring.
Forehand nominated for NCAA Woman of Year
UNG softball player Hannah Forehand was named an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee for 2023.
UNG welcomes students, community for Starlight
UNG students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to the Starlight fireworks on Aug. 26 at the Gainesville Campus, where they can also meet President Michael Shannon and UNG's national champion softball team.
