University of North Georgia (UNG) women's basketball head coach Buffie Burson earned her 600th career victory in a 76-70 triumph against ninth-ranked Carson-Newman University on Nov. 19 in Dahlonega.

"I just want to say thank you to every player and coach who has been a part of these wins. They are the ones who deserve the credit," Burson said. "I have been extremely blessed to coach and be around some of the very best players and people. I am also grateful to our administration through all these years for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime to coach at UNG."

Burson is in her 29th season leading the UNG women's basketball program. She has 17 seasons of at least 20 wins, and her team was 18-2 during the COVID-19-shortened 2020-21 campaign. Her program has made the national tournament 14 times between NCAA Division II and NAIA, including its current five-year streak of reaching the NCAA postseason.

Her team advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four for the first time in 2022 and reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 2019. The Nighthawks have also won four of the past five Peach Belt Conference tournaments.
