    President continues Listening Tour

    UNG President Michael Shannon will continue his Listening Tour during the first two weeks of the academic year.

    University of North Georgia (UNG) President Michael Shannon will continue his Listening Tour as the fall 2023 semester begins.  

    He will visit each of UNG's five campuses for meetings with students, faculty, staff, community members, and alumni in the first two weeks of the 2023-24 academic year to learn more about UNG and the university's priorities.  

    The focused sessions for students, faculty and staff are open to UNG community members and no registration is required. Alumni and community members will be invited to additional sessions scheduled for those stakeholder groups.

    • Aug. 22, 2:30-3:30 p.m. – Cumming Campus, Room 125
    • Aug. 23, 1:30-2:30 p.m. – Oconee Campus, Student Resource Center, Room 581
    • Aug. 24, 2:30-3:30 p.m. – Gainesville Campus, Martha T. Nesbitt Building, Room 3110-A
    • Aug. 29, Noon to 1 p.m. – Dahlonega Campus, Hoag Student Center Auditorium
    • Aug. 30, 1:30-2:30 p.m. – Blue Ridge Campus, Learning Commons, Room 101

    Faculty 

    • Aug. 22, 4-5 p.m. – Cumming Campus, Room 125

    Shannon, a retired U.S. Army officer, became president of UNG on July 1, after serving as interim executive vice president for administration and finance and interim chief business officer at Georgia Tech. Prior to his interim role, Shannon served as Georgia Tech's vice president and deputy chief business officer.  

    A native of New Jersey, Shannon is a first-generation college graduate and was commissioned through Army ROTC. He holds a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering and a master's degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. He also holds a master's degree in health physics and a Ph.D. in nuclear and radiological engineering from Georgia Tech.
