Cadet earns scholarship from veterans' group
University of North Georgia (UNG) cadet Hyunbean Park has been selected as the annual UNG recipient of a scholarship from the Georgia Mountain Chapter (GMC) of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).
"Receiving the scholarship from MOAA is a tremendous honor for me. It validates my dedication to learning, service to our nation and international engagement," Park said. "I'm humbled by this recognition, and I want to express my gratitude to members of MOAA for their continuous selfless service by supporting the next generation of leaders."
Park is a senior from Suwanee, Georgia, pursuing a degree in international affairs with a concentration in Europe and a minor in Russian. He was recognized as the scholarship winner at the annual GMC MOAA meeting held Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at UNG's Dahlonega Campus.
"We showcased UNG's prestigious Corps of Cadets and the city of Dahlonega to all conferees. GMC MOAA is fortunate to have one of six national senior military colleges in our area, and we wanted our fellow MOAA members from other chapters to meet and observe UNG cadets in action," retired Col. Tom Palmer, GMC MOAA first vice president and retired UNG commandant of cadets, said. "We appreciated the cooperation of UNG President Mike Shannon, along with the support of the professor of military science and the commandant of cadets as we showcased the best military leadership development program in America."
MOAA is a non-profit veterans' association dedicated to maintaining a strong national defense and ensuring the nation keeps its commitments to currently serving, retired and former members of the uniformed services and their families.
GMC MOAA routinely supports the commissioning program at UNG by presenting a gift to every lieutenant who commissions from the Corps of Cadets.

Two UNG students in the Master of Science in counseling program are serving as mental health graduate assistants for the Athletic Department, and one is serving in the same capacity for the Corps of Cadets.

Almost 40 members of UNG's Corps of Cadets are commissioning as second lieutenants in the active-duty Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve in a Dec. 9 ceremony.
Grads prepare to step into workforce
Students will earn more than 1,000 degrees and certificates this fall from UNG, and the university will celebrate these milestones in the Dec. 9-10 commencement ceremonies in the Convocation Center at UNG's Dahlonega Campus.
