University of North Georgia (UNG) family and guests can now register for the annual Family Day event set to take place Sept. 21 at UNG’s Dahlonega Campus.
"This year, we have expanded activities and created key anchor events for students, parents and families to attend in addition to lots of other activities so students and their families can build their own adventure for the day," Jennifer Herring, family engagement manager, said. "For example, in addition to the cadet parade review and academic showcase, students, parents and families can attend a UNG home soccer game in the afternoon and a soccer game tailgate."
There are eight events prior to the UNG men's and women's soccer matches that will take place in the UNG Soccer Complex, including:
- Academic Showcase in the Hoag Patio Student Center, at 9:30 am
- Pickin on the Porch at Vickery House, at 10 am and 1 pm
- Cadet Parade Review on the Gen. William "Lipp" Livsey Drill Field, at 11 am
- Planetarium Show in the Health and Natural Sciences building, at 11 am
- Eat Like Nigel in the Dining Hall at 11 am
- Get the Scoop with President Shannon, an ice cream social, in the Dining Hall - Upper Dining Space, at 12:30 pm
- UNG Soccer Tailgate, with activities for future Nighthawks, in the Soccer Complex parking lots at 2:00 pm
UNG junior Emma Mitchell serves as the Student Government Association (SGA) president. Pursuing a degree in marketing, Mitchell shared she's looking forward to seeing families laughing together in a place where they don't get to gather usually.
"I am excited to see families together on campus simply enjoying themselves and spending time together," the Blue Ridge, Georgia, native said. "For many, family is essential. Students want to be able to show their families what they experience on campus and what their facilities look like."
