Co-authored work accepted into peer-reviewed journal

Dr. Esther Morgan-Ellis recently co-authored an article with alumna Charlotte Nease and student Sofia Perez that was accepted into a peer-reviewed journal.  

The article is titled "Partnering on AI Policies for Upper-Level Humanities Courses," and it details the collaboration of two music history classes to write, revise, and adopt AI policies.

“Charlotte and Sofia are both really exceptional young women. It’s no surprise that they both just won University of North Georgia (UNG) Music Department awards for other accomplishments,” Morgan-Ellis said.

The collaborative work was recently presented at the Annual Meeting of the South-Central Chapter of the American Musicological Society.

Nease completed her musical arts degree in May. Her original plan was to teach music, but after working with Morgan-Ellis, she chose to continue research and apply to grad school. 

“I wouldn’t have thought about applying for musicology if I hadn't met Dr. Morgan-Ellis. She’s been very encouraging,” Nease said. “So the plan as of right now is diving into that and seeing where that leads me.”

Nease will add this recognition to her previous awards, including the Scholarly Writing Award and the Rising Musician Award.

Perez, a senior from Grayson, Georgia, pursuing a degree in vocal performance, said she was a bit apprehensive about presenting at the conference but concluded that “trying things out of your comfort zone will truly help you to grow as a person.”

“I really appreciated Dr. Morgan-Ellis' confidence in Charlotte and me and the opportunity to go with her to the conference,” Perez said. 

The article was published earlier this month in ”International Journal for Students as Partners.”
