Dr. Elfenbein is the director of the Institute for Healthy Aging at UNG. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Gerontology in Higher Education for her lifelong work in the field. She also has been awarded almost $2 million in grants and contracts for community programs designed to enhance and increase the quality of life for older adults and their families.

Dr. Elfenbein is a member of the Gerontological Society of America, Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education, Georgia Gerontology Society.

Dr. Elfenbein received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, a master's degree at Barry College, and doctoral degree in sociology from the University of Miami.
