University System of Georgia (USG) Chancellor Steve Wrigley announced a Comprehensive Administrative Review (CAR) at the April 2017 meeting of the Board of Regents. This is a system-wide initiative focused on improving administration through creating efficiencies, streamlining processes and finding ways to be more effective with USG resources.
The Comprehensive Administrative Review is being led by a steering committee composed of representatives from USG institutions to take an in-depth look at all non-faculty administrative functions across the University System. Core faculty activities, such as teaching and research, are exempt from the review.
This update was presented to or shared with UNG's Executive Council, Faculty Senate and Staff Council.
The institutional engagement for this effort is divided into multiple phases. See below for an overview of those phases.
Activity Assessment & Opportunity Identification Survey to be deployed at each institution to specific audiences.
Invitations for interviews and focus groups will be sent by local leadership/project coordinators at each institution.
Institution-level reports will be vetted with local leadership to confirm accuracy of findings and recommendations before presentation.
An institutionally-based Working Group will review the Huron Consulting report and develop recommendations per the CAR objectives. The recommendations will be shared with the university community and the President’s Cabinet. The President must approve any recommendations before they are forwarded to the USG Chancellor for final approval.
Implementation, depending upon each of the final recommendations, will occur over a period of a few weeks or up to three years.
November 2017-February 2018: Data collection and surveys.
Spring 2018: Huron Consulting report received by the institution.
Fall 2018: UNG CAR Working Group formed to evaluate report, conduct further assessment and begin forming recommendations.
Late Fall 2018-Spring 2019: Recommendations presented to the President’s Cabinet and to the USG Chancellor for review and approval.
Summer 2019: Begin implementation of recommendations.
President Bonita Jacobs established a Working Group at UNG in Fall 2018 to evaluate the report and data presented by Huron Consulting, to conduct further assessment as needed, and to begin forming recommendations for potential improvements related to processes, administrative functions, and organizational structure. The Working Group was divided into three sub-groups to conduct this work. The Working Group’s recommendations were presented to the President’s Cabinet and other institutional groups as the UNG CAR Update - Spring 2019.
