In events held in Gainesville and Dahlonega on Aug. 13, University of North Georgia President Bonita Jacobs launched the first full academic year of the consolidated institution by thanking the university's nearly 2,000 faculty and staff for their hard work on consolidation and announcing new initiatives to support innovation, scholarship and service. In 2018-2019 the Presidential Salary Study Task Force was asked to investigate issues surrounding the salaries of the faculty at the University of North Georgia. In addition to the salary data analysis, the Task Force surveyed the UNG faculty twice to sample its attitudes about the current salary situation and the prevailing opinions on how discovered issues should be attacked. The Board of Regents, the governing body of the University System of Georgia, held its monthly meeting April 15-16, 2014 on UNG's Dahlonega Campus. At the beginning of the April 15 meeting, UNG President Bonita Jacobs spoke to the board and an audience that included USG staff and presidents and administrators from several USG institutions, welcoming them to UNG and sharing the university's recent accomplishments. At the April 16, 2014 Board of Regents meeting held on UNG’s Dahlonega Campus, UNG President Bonita Jacobs talked about the university’s 2013 consolidation before the board and an audience that included USG staff and presidents and administrators from most USG institutions. The Complete College Georgia initiative has revealed an alarming statistic: only 17 percent of Georgia’s public high school freshmen will graduate on time from a two- or four-year college or university. In addition, many of our young people are not prepared to join the workforce of tomorrow. To address these issues and positively impact the future of our region, the University of North Georgia established the Regional Education and Economic Development Task Force, a partnership of more than 100 invited business, education, government, and community leaders from a 27-county area of the northeast region of the state.
