Eligibility and How to Apply

Am I Eligible?

To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have at least a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Be a student in good academic standing, that has been accepted to, or enrolled at, the University of North Georgia at the time of application. This includes:
    • New Freshman students from all UNG campuses
    • Dual & joint enrollment students from all UNG campuses
    • Transient students (You are enrolled in another college or university and seek temporary admission to UNG)
    • Transfer students (permanently transferring to UNG)
    • Non-traditional students
    • Post graduate students

What Are Your Next Steps?

That depends on your student status. Check the appropriate section to see what you need to do.

I am a:
Newly Accepted Student
  1. As a newly accepted student you must activate your account and reset your password before you will be ready to apply for SLI.
  2. You must be sure to also submit your confirmation of acceptance to UNG and pay the Confirmation Deposit (or Room Deposit for Cadets) by March 15, 2019 for your SLI application to be considered complete and eligible for review.
ROTC Cadet (incoming or current)

As an ROTC cadet you are eligible to apply for a scholarship if you meet the following:

  • Are you an undergraduate or graduate student on track to commission through the Army, Naval, or Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), contracted or non-contracted, at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States?
    • If you are a current or incoming ROTC cadet for the UNG Corps of Cadets, you fall into this category.
  • Are you a U.S. citizen?

If you answered yes to both questions, you are eligible to apply for the Project GO scholarship to attend SLI at UNG!

Application Process and Deadlines:

Your application process and deadline varies dependent on your status - incoming or current.

Incoming Pre-Freshman UNG Cadets

Includes incoming frogs who have been accepted and committed to attend UNG as an ROTC cadet but have not yet begun classes. You should apply by completing the SLI application (Follow the steps under "Newly Accepted Student" above and then "Ready to Apply?" below).

Current ROTC Cadets at UNG and Other Universities

You must apply for SLI through the National Project Go Application before February 20, 2019.

Current Student (not ROTC)

If you've already gone through all the steps to for a newly accepted student or have already been taking classes at UNG, you may apply for the Summer Language Institute. See "Ready to Apply?" below.

Not a Student Yet?

If you are not a student (not even currently accepted), you need to first apply to UNG for acceptance.

Ready to Apply?

If you've completed all the required steps above according to your student status, (current ROTC Cadets - apply through the National Project GO web site), you are ready to apply.

Just a reminder, the deadline for your application is March 15, 2019.

Here's what you will need when applying:

  • Applicant personal and academic information
  • Two (2) academic recommendations (attached to application)
  • Academic Transcript (official or unofficial)
  • Two (2) essays (less than 500 words each)

Once your application is completed (including the items above), mark the box at the bottom of the application as "Complete, Ready for Review."

Hit the Apply Now button and enter your UNG username and password in the box that appears to access the application portal.

Please note: The application is not mobile-friendly.

What if I Cannot Access the Application?

Newly Accepted Student? Make sure you've completed the necessary steps (See "Newly Accepted Student" section.)

Student Commitment

  • Cannot be registered for any other courses.
  • May not be employed.
  • Must not have any other major time commitments outside of SLI for the extent of the program.
