Hello, my name is Allison Grundel and I'm the CURCA administrative assistant. This video is
going to walk you through the steps on how to submit your 250 word abstract to the 28th Annual
research conference, or ARC 2023, that'll occur on March 24th 2023 on the Dahlonega campus.
The deadline to submit your abstract to NOIR is February 17th by 11 59 pm so to submit your
abstract you are going to go to Noir which is The Nighthawks Open Institutional Repository. The
URL address is ir.ung.edu
Once you go on this is the first page you'll see and in the top right corner you are going to select
sign in and it'll bring you to the login page. If you have never signed in or logged in before you
might have to sign up for an account and then you would click this link that says sign up and
you'll follow the steps to create the account and then log in. So I'm going to log into my account.
And once you're logged in, it'll take you back to the same page where you hit the login and you
can tell that you're signed in because in the top right hand corner you'll have the icon and it'll say
account. So you want to click that and then the drop down will appear and you'll select
dashboard and the dashboard will take you to where you can submit or edit any of your works or
your submissions. Um so to submit you would want to click the blue button in the right corner
that says add new work and this pop-up will appear. You want to select UNG annual research
conference 2023 and then under type of work you want to select presentation and then hit create
work.
And now you're taken to this page where you can fill out these fields, so you want to fill out
required and potentially some unrequired fields as well. So the first thing you want to do is enter
your title and I'll go ahead and enter my title right here. Under resource type this drop down you
can choose either poster or presentation. The presentation means oral presentation so for this
example I'm just going to choose presentation. And then under creator name leave it as personal.
Under creator family name that's your last name so I'm going to put in my last name. Under
creator given name it'll be your first name.
Under creator institutional relationship we accept abstracts from both graduate and
undergraduate students so for this example I'm just going to select undergraduate student. Under
institution I'm going to select my main campus and for me it is Dahlonega. And then you want to
enter your abstract into this field right here, so I'm going to copy and paste my abstract here.
Next field is keywords and this would be words or phrases that you select to describe what your
research or creative activity or performance is about, but for this example I'm just going to say
ARC 2023, but you would use anything pertaining to what you have researched or done. The
next one is subject I'm just going to choose biology but this would be the headings or the index
terms describing what your abstract is about, so whatever subject that is. Similarly,
organizational unit you would choose um whatever it would be as above so I'm going to choose
biology.
For language, I'm going to select English and for license I'm going to select the second from the
top which is CC-BY-MC 4.0 Attribution Non-commercial. That one right there and it's giving
the administrators of NOIR access to your work to post it once it has been reviewed and if you've
been accepted. For publisher you want to put University of North Georgia
If you need this document in another format, please contact CURCA at CURCA@ung.edu or call 706-867-
3013.
And then under date published you can select just the current year which is 2023. Now you want
to click additional fields and if you have any collaborative students who are working on the
research or creative activity with you you can add them here. And this is also where you would
add your faculty mentor so I'm going to add my faculty mentor. And under their family name I'm
going to [put] last name under the given name I'm going to put their first name.
And that'd be it. Tou can fill in the others if you want to but you can also leave them blank. And
if I wanted to add someone else, so today I'm going to add a collaborative student. I'm going to
again put in their family name and under their given name, which is their first name, I'm going to
put that there.
And then once you have that all there, you would go to up here you have these tabs right here
you're currently on descriptions, you want to go to the notes tab and put in your email address.
So that way when we're sending emails it'll be easy for us to find you if you want to also include
the email addresses of any collaborative students that have worked and are going to present with
you as well to be included on emails you would put those here too and this note just goes directly
to us.
And then you would click right here, that I have read and agreed to the deposit agreement,
once I've reviewed everything and hit save and that will send your abstract submission to us for
us to review. If you are doing an oral presentation and you are a part of a panel with other
students presenting as well, before you would click save you would scroll down here to
additional fields and the additional information and you would enter um what the panel name is a
faculty mentor and any of the students that will be presenting with you in the panel. So I'm just
going to go ahead and copy that note right here. So you would put that information here so us
conference organizers, when we are adding all this into our database, we make sure to panel you
all together.
You will review, click this box on the right hand side that says I have read and agree
to the deposit agreement, and hit save. And that will send the submission to us to be reviewed. If
you have any questions about the submission process or ARC 2023 please send us an email to
CURCA, CURCA@ung.edu. Again the email address is CURCA@ung.edu. Thank you.
