    Tutoring Services FAQ

    • What should students expect from a session?

Tutors help students learn how to solve the problem; they don’t complete homework for students.

    • I missed class; can you teach me what I missed?
Not by ourselves. You should see your instructor during office hours first, and then come to us with your specific concerns.
    • Can the math tutors help me learn how to use my calculator or with Web Assignments?

Yes. These are a couple of the services the Math labs provide. Tutors can help with solving and entering answers into web assignments and can help students learn how to use their calculators.

    • Can tutors help with Web Assignments?

Yes, tutors can help with solving and entering the answers in web assignments.

    • Can tutors just teach me lessons I missed when I was absent from class?
No, we recommend that you communicate with your instructor to receive instructions on material you missed.
    • What classes will the writing center help me with?
Any class! We help many students from English courses, and we help students working with writing in any major. We’ll also help with writing for applications, emails, professional documents, and creative endeavors.
    • Will a consultant edit my paper for me?
No. Consultants are trained to assist students at any point in the writing process, but editing suggests that they do the work for you. Instead, consultants model strategies that help you revise and edit your writing.
    • How long does a tutoring session last?
Our session blocks are for 30 minutes. Sometimes students have specific questions that take less time. Students are encouraged schedule a session with the Writing Center at least two days prior to the due date of an assignment and repeat visits are strongly encouraged so that you can receive feedback throughout the writing process.
    • Can you tell me if my writing will receive an A?
No. Only your instructor can give you a grade, and consultants know that individual readers may differ in how they evaluate. Writing consultants may help you strengthen your writing
    • What should students expect from the session?
Tutors help students learn how to solve the problem; they don’t complete homework for students.
