Information Technology

The UNG IT Service Desk is the single point of contact for all technology related questions and requests for all students, faculty and staff. The Service Desk is a close-knit team of full-time and student personnel offering friendly and prompt assistance for walk-in service, phone support, email, text messaging, instant messaging, and social media.

In addition to technology support, the IT Service Desk also offers a variety of computer services, from software and hardware diagnostics and installation, to malware and spyware removal. Personal computer services are offered in-person on all of University of North Georgia campuses.

Student Account Activation

In order to activate your UNG Network ID, you must first change the default password from the one provided by Information Technology. To assist you with this process, please visit our Account Activation Portal

IT Maintenance Windows

IT maintenance windows run from 10:30 pm – 06:00 am on the following days:

AV Systems: Mon/Tues
Server and Desktop: Wed/Thurs
Network and Telecom: Thurs/Fri
Banner System: 4th Saturday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm

Emergency and time-critical maintenance or repairs may be performed outside of the normal maintenance windows.
IT does not anticipate the need to use every maintenance window every week, however, it is important to be aware of the time and possible interruption of service.

The IT Service Desk provides assistance with all University of North Georgia affiliated accounts including your UNG Network ID. Your UNG Network ID is your username that will be used for all UNG resources including Banner, campus computer, email, eLearning, and wireless access.  Your UNG Network ID  is in accordance with the policies put into place by the University System of Georgia, which ensure your sensitive information is secured by  requiring a complex password  and requiring your password be changed every six months.

Account Activation

In order to activate your UNG Network ID, you must first change the default password from the one provided by Information Technology. To assist you with this process, please visit our Account Activation Portal.

Password Portal

The UNG Password Portal is used to change and reset account passwords. This will be used in the event you lose or forget your password, as well as if your account password expires. The Change/Expired Password option allows you to simply change your account password, which will re-activate an expired account. The Forgot Password link will allow you to answer your security questions in the event that you have forgotten the account password. In order to use the Forgot Password option, enrollment in the Password Management services is required. In order to enroll in Password Management, you will use the Enroll in Password Management option from the Password Portal.

The IT Service Desk provides professional computer diagnostic and repair services to all students as part of your Student Technology Fee and at no additional cost. We are equipped to service both Windows and Macintosh computers.

Software Installation

We offer installation of many popular software solutions, including Microsoft Office and ESET NOD32 Antivirus. Alternatively, the software can be installed on your own through our Software Portal. Other software applications can be installed upon request, if licenses are provided.

Hardware Installation

Though hardware is not covered by the Student Technology Fee, we are able to install most hardware components. Should it be hardware failure or simply an upgrade, if you provide the component to us we are able to professionally install the component.


The I.T. Service Desk provides both software and hardware diagnostics. Using state of the art tools, we are able to accurately diagnose what is causing your computer to malfunction, and repair it accordingly. In the case of hardware failure, we will provide a quote for a replacement part and install the replacement for you. Software Diagnostics include malware removal, troubleshooting, and Operating System repairs.

Information Technology at the University of North Georgia provides all students, faculty and staff the ability to enter issues and requests for technology-related issues through the Self Service Portal.

Knowledge Base

Through the Self Service Portal, all students, faculty and staff have access to an extensive Knowledge Base that contains answers to the most frequently asked questions. To access the Knowledge Base, simply visit the Self Service Portal and select Knowledge Base.
