Bachelor of Science with Chemical Physics Concentration

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry offers three American Chemical Society (ACS) certified degrees.  The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Chemistry with Chemical Physics Concentration is designed for students who have a strong interest in fundamental science, especially chemistry and physics, and have an aptitude for mathematics.  In addition to rigorous classroom preparation, students pursuing this degree receive extensive lab experience including hands-on operation of numerous instruments.

Chemical Physics Curriculum

The curriculum is centered on the five traditional chemistry sub-disciplines:

  1. analytical chemistry
  2. organic chemistry
  3. physical chemistry
  4. inorganic chemistry
  5. biochemistry

Students also receive significant additional instruction in advanced physical chemistry, physics, and mathematics to complete their curriculum.  Finally, many students gain further lab experience by conducting undergraduate research.

What can you do with a career in chemistry?

The B.S. Degree in Chemistry with Chemical Physics Concentration is a very versatile degree.  Students graduating from UNG with a B.S. in Chemistry with Chemical Physics Concentration go on to pursue careers in chemical industry; work for local, state, or federal agencies; or pursue advanced degrees from professional or graduate schools.  For example, a recent UNG chemical physics graduate has gone on to pursue a computational chemistry Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University.
