Foundations of Fraternity and Sorority Life

Fraternity and Sorority life is founded with four main principles in mind. They are service, scholarship, leadership, and lifelong friendships. At UNG, the fraternity and sorority community embraces these principles.

    Service

One of the most rewarding aspects of fraternity/sorority membership is the opportunity to be involved with community service and philanthropic projects. Each year the fraternity and sorority community contributes many hours and dollars to local and national charities. We acknowledge the responsibility to serve and benefit others by volunteering our time to the community. Last year the fraternity and sorority community volunteered over 10,000 hours and donated over $90,000. Working together on these philanthropic projects and events not only benefits worthy causes, but also fosters personal growth and greater unity among our members.

    Scholarship

Academics are the most important aspect of college life. At UNG, the primary goal for students is to successfully complete their academic requirements. Our fraternities and sororities pride themselves on academic success. Each chapter offers a wide range of support and assistance to its members, including: incentives and awards, time management and study skill workshops, and tutoring and mentoring programs. UNG requires a minimum 2.5 GPA and one full semester as an enrolled college student for participation in recruitment. Dual enrollment does not count toward the semester credit.

    Leadership

Fraternity and Sorority Life provides countless opportunities for further exploration and development of leadership skills. Members engage in a wide variety of activities that develop abilities such as teamwork, dedication, loyalty and cooperation. Fraternity men and sorority women serve as leaders on campus within many student organizations, as well as officers within their individual chapters and as executive members of governing councils. Within the fraternity/sorority community alone, we have over 300 leadership positions available for students. Joining the fraternity/sorority community at UNG can open a vast range of leadership possibilities and enable a student to experience profound personal development and growth.

    Lifelong Friendships

One of the most cherished aspects of being involved in a fraternity or sorority are the friendships that are made with people who share your interests and your values. Involvement in a fraternal organization gives members an opportunity to expand their circle of friends, because siblinghood is the foundation of the fraternity and sorority experience. It combines the concept of individualism within the framework of mutual cooperation. As a fraternity/sorority member, you will form friendships unlike any found in other organizations.
