McNair Scholars Program

The McNair Program is designed to prepare sophomores, juniors and seniors from all UNG campuses for post-graduate studies through involvement in research and scholarly activities. Participants are either first-generation college students with financial need or members of a group traditionally underrepresented in graduate education who have shown strong academic potential.

Benefits of the Program

Students enrolled in the McNair Program are matched with faculty members to conduct scholarly research and establish a formalized mentoring program beginning in fall through spring. In the summer, students will participate in the Summer Research Institute (SRI), an intensive research program. McNair Scholars also have a range of services available including:

  • Personal counseling and mentoring
  • Academic advisement and tutorial services
  • Engaging in cultural and education activities
  • Weekly workshops on the nature of academic life
  • Assistance with the graduate school admissions process and applications
  • Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) prep
  • Financial aid guidance

Participants in good standing in the program have the opportunity to be eligible for a financial stipend, ranging from $500 to $2,500.
