Technology Leadership Specialization

For 70 years, the University of North Georgia has produced the next generation of business leaders. Beginning in fall 2016, the Mike Cottrell College of Business at the University of North Georgia now offers a new specialization for professionals seeking to grow into leaders in the field of technology.

The Technology Leadership certificate is a graduate-level certificate program that provides essential business and managerial skills for those in the technology sector. The certificate may be completed as part of the Cottrell MBA program (MBA with specialization in Technology Leadership) or as a non-degree certificate.

Cottrell MBA with Specialization in Technology Leadership

Many IT and technology professionals find themselves in positions where additional business, management and professional skills could propel their careers upward into roles in upper management. The Cottrell MBA with Specialization in Technology Leadership is ideal for those in these positions, providing the relevant business and leadership skills as well as management skills, necessary to lead effective technology teams.

The core courses in the Cottrell MBA provide functional knowledge in a variety of fields while also addressing skills such as analytics, ethical decision-making and professionalism. In the fall and spring semesters students will take courses in step with the cohort:

Fall (Year 1): 7 Semester Hours

ACCT 6300 - Accounting for Decision Making (3 Hour)

MGMT 6600 - Leadership and Motivation (3 Hour)

MGMT 6680 - Professionalism in Business (1 Hour)

Fall (Year 2): 6 Semester Hours 

FINC 6400 - Financial Management (3 Hour)

MGMT 6610 - Information Management (3 Hour)

Spring (Year 1): 6 Semester Hours

MGMT 6620 - Operations Mgt with Mgt Science (3 Hour)

MKTG 6705 - Marketing Management (3 Hour)

Spring (Year 2): 7 Semester Hours

BUSA 6900 - Strategic Mgt in a Global Envi (3 Hour)

BUSA 6990 - Capstone Leadership Exp (1 Hour)

ECON 6205 - Economics & Decision Making (3 Hour)

In addition to the 26 hours of core MBA courses, students pursuing the Cottrell MBA with a Specialization in Technology Leadership will take the following 3 courses during one of the available summer semesters:

Specialization in Technology Leadership:

MGMT 6650 – Human Side of Technology (3 Hour)

MGMT 6660 – Enterprise Project Management (3 Hour)

MGMT 6670 – Strategy and Structure of Technology (3 Hour)

Technology Leadership Certificate Program

The Technology Leadership graduate certificate program provides essential managerial skills for technology-sector professionals who may already have a Master's degree or who may not be interested in a Master's degree at this time. Graduate certificates are for those who are not-seeking an additional degree but may be interested in additional education in the field of technology.

Students pursuing this type of certificate will still need to meet certain requirements as found here.

The Technology Leadership graduate certificate program is a 10 semester hour program taught entirely during the summer semester. The courses include:

MGMT 6650 – Human Side of Technology (3 Hour)

MGMT 6660 – Enterprise Project Management (3 Hour)

MGMT 6670 – Strategy and Structure of Technology (3 Hour)

MGMT 6680 - Professionalism in Business (1 Hour)
