    Mattie Moon Scholarship

    The Mattie Moon Scholarship was established in 1990 by a community group called the Bridge Builders, under the leadership of Nathaniel Shelton and Robert Thorpe. It is named in memory of Mattie Moon, one of Gainesville’s most revered educators who retired in 1970 after a 57-year career in education. Ms. Moon passed away in 1986.

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Be U.S. citizens and Georgia resident
    • Demonstrate financial need and academic ability
    • Enroll for a minimum of 10 credit hours
    • Preference will be given to applicants planning a career in teaching, social work, church-related professions, criminal justice, or the military
