    Personalized Campus Visit

UNG offers the opportunity to tour your campus during an optional campus visit with an orientation leader once you have registered for the required live virtual orientation.

The optional campus visits will be available from November - December. Attending a campus visit does not replace the virtual orientation. All students are still required to attend and complete the virtual orientation.

This tour is open to the student and their family and will be limited in numbers to maximize the guest to Orientation Leader experience. This tour will accommodate students who wish to schedule the tour with a future roommate, pending space is available during the requested tour date. Please allot one and a half hours for the campus visit.

You may schedule this optional personalized campus tour by selecting your home campus and completing the form. After signing up, you will receive an email with more detailed information about the visit.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • What is the difference between the admissions tour offered by Undergraduate Admissions and the personalized campus visit hosted by the NEST?

The tour that is offered by Undergraduate Admissions is a generalized tour to familiarize prospective students with what UNG has to offer. The personalized campus visit is led by an orientation leader and is customized for the admitted student to visit areas around the student’s campus specifically for them. The personalized campus visit will allow for short visits upon request with specific departments to drop off items, inquire about specific tasks, and cadet uniform fitting. Students will have the opportunity to find their classroom locations and visit their residence hall as well. The personalized campus visit is also limited to a smaller group as opposed to the admissions tour that can accommodate several families.

    • What is the difference between the mandatory ZOOM orientation and the personalized campus visit?

Although the Zoom orientation provides a wealth of knowledge to prepare incoming new and transfer students for their first semester on the UNG campus, it does not provide an opportunity to physically be on the campus and determine building locations for scheduled classes. The optional personalized campus visit allows students and their immediate family members to see the campus in person to become familiar with the layout of the campus.  The virtual orientation is only presented to the student (not family members), where the personalized campus visit includes family members, if desired.

    • Why do I need to wait until I have completed the required Zoom orientation before I attend the personalized campus visit?

Although the personalized campus visit is informational, there is not enough time to cover all the information that is necessary for the student to succeed as a new or transfer student. This important information is presented in the virtual session over the course of the six hour session.

    • How long is the personalized campus visit?

The personalized campus visit is scheduled for one and a half to two hours.

    • Who leads the personalized campus visit tour

The personalized campus visits are led by an active student orientation leader. Orientation leaders serve as a direct line of communication for students throughout the summer.

    • Am I able to request a campus that is different than my home/accepted campus?

Students can only request their home campus for the personalized campus visit at this time.  If there is a need for the student to tour another campus, there is a self-guided tour option or it can be arranged on a case by case basis through NEST.

    • Will I be able to see my specific dorm room on the Dahlonega campus?

The specific dorm room will not be available to view on the personalized campus visit, however, students will be able to see a room within their assigned residence hall (pending availability) and see the laundry room/common spaces.

    • If I anticipate needing accommodations, will there be a chance to request them on the personalized campus tour?

Yes. There is a section on the reservation form to request any accommodations necessary.

    • Will I be able to meet with my advisor during the personalized campus visit?

No. Advisor appointments can be made through AdviseMe. Advisors can be viewed by the student on tranguid in Banner. This will be covered during the Zoom Orientation.

    • Is it possible to do the personalized campus visit with my friend or new roommate?

Yes, students can coordinate with friends and future roommates to attend the same personalized campus visit.  Each party/family will need to make their own reservation and every attempt to provide safeguards will be made with regards to student privacy and safety.

    • Will there be food provided during the tour?

Food will not be provided during the personalized campus visit, however each campus has a variety of options for snacks, drinks or meals on a self-pay basis.  The campus dining options will be on a limited schedule, therefore it is encouraged to check the specific website for these times.

    • What is the signup deadline to register for a personalized campus visit?

Personalized campus visits can be scheduled for a date that is after the mandatory virtual orientation via Zoom.  Registration will close one week prior to the date of the personalized campus visit date. Visit slots are on a first-come first served basis. We cannot guarantee a visit time slot for a particular day or time. Please contact the NEST if you have any questions regarding this.

    • If I am a cadet, can I schedule time to do a uniform fitting?

Yes. There is an option on the registration form to request time for a fitting for cadets.

    • Will there be a computer available if I need help with something?

Each campus will attempt to provide access to the computer lab or a laptop for students to use, if needed.
