Are you a former UNG undergraduate student who has been away from UNG three or more semesters including summer? Here you will find the answers to your questions you may have regarding how to apply and return to UNG.

Note: If you are a former UNG graduate student, please contact grads@ung.edu or call 706-867-2077 for information on how to return to UNG.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • 1. Do I need to reapply to UNG?

If you have been away from UNG three or more consecutive semesters (including summer), you will need to reapply through UNG Undergraduate Admissions. Choose the student type of “Former Returning Student”.

If you have ONLY been away from UNG one or two semesters, you should be able to register as an active student. Contact your academic advisor to proceed with advising and registration.

    • 2. How do I check my application status?

Check your application status. You will also be able to determine if you have any outstanding items. If you have a question about an outstanding item, please contact Undergraduate Admissions or Kathy Tosh for further assistance.

    • 3. What if I attended another school after I left UNG?

If you attended another institution since you left UNG, have your transcripts sent to:

      University of North Georgia
      Admissions Imaging Center
      PO Box 1358
      Gainesville, GA 30503-1358

      admissions-gvl@ung.edu

    • 4. Do I need to submit my SAT/ACT scores again?

You do not need to submit test scores or transcripts if we already have them from your prior enrollment. If you have updated test scores or transcripts, then you should submit them to:

      University of North Georgia
      Admissions Imaging Center
      PO Box 1358
      Gainesville, GA 30503-1358

      admissions-gvl@ung.edu

    • 5. Will I need to complete Placement Testing (Accuplacer)?

You may need to complete Accuplacer Placement Testing, even if you completed Placement Testing when you were enrolled at UNG before. If Placement Testing is needed, you will see an outstanding item on your Check Application Status page. Register for Accuplacer with UNG Testing.

    • 6. Will I be eligible for financial aid?

To find out if you will be eligible for financial aid, submit a FAFSA. Each student at UNG has a UNG financial aid counselor. Contact your financial aid counselor for more information.

    • 7. What if I was on academic suspension when I left UNG?

You will need to have your hold for academic suspension lifted before you can register. To do this, send an email to registrar-dah@ung.edu. Send the email from your UNG email and include your name and student ID. Request to have academic suspension hold lifted so you can register.

    • 8. Can I start over (Academic Renewal)?

If you have been away from UNG for three years (nine consecutive semesters), you may be eligible for academic renewal. You can complete the academic renewal request form at the time you apply. If you do not request academic renewal at the time you apply, you still have one year from the time of your re-acceptance to request an evaluation for academic renewal through an email to registrar-dah@ung.edu.

Academic renewal provides students who have been away nine consecutive semesters or more the opportunity to start over with a 0.0 GPA. Credit is retained for courses with grades of “C” or higher.

Federal Financial Aid and Hope do not recognize Academic Renewal.

See the UNG Academic Catalog for more information regarding Academic Renewal.

    • 9. Can I change my major or campus?

When you complete the UNG application, you will have the opportunity to choose a different major and/or campus. Once admitted to UNG, you will be assigned an academic advisor based upon the major you specified on your application so give this choice careful consideration. You can request a change of major or campus after acceptance if necessary.

    • 10. Can I take my classes online?

The “core” classes represent 42 earned hours represented by Areas A-E. Areas A-E have options to complete many courses online. Once you reach Area F and beyond to upper level courses, online options may or may not be available.

    • 11. Can I use my VA Educational Benefits when I return to UNG?

VA Educational Benefits are certified through the UNG Financial Aid Office. You also have the option of meeting with a Veterans Financial Aid Counselor to discuss our eligibility for benefits.

Contact UNG Veterans Financial Aid for more information.

    • 12. What are the next steps after acceptance?

Once a student is readmitted, it takes approximately 48 hours for the student’s previous records to be reactivated. You will then be able to activate your accounts and complete the items on the Readmit Student Checklist including academic advisement and course registration.
