    How to Transfer to UNG

You Should Apply as a Transfer Student If:

    • You've graduated from high school or earned qualifying scores on the GED, HiSET or TASC.
    • You've taken a college course after high school that transfers to UNG.
    • You have not earned a bachelor's degree or you are pursuing a second bachelor's degree.

Have You Earned Less Than 30 Transferable Credit Hours?

    • If you graduated from high school less than five years before the semester you want to enroll, you must meet the new freshman admissions requirements, in addition to transfer admissions requirements.
    • If you graduated from high school more than five years before the semester you want to enroll, apply as a non-traditional adult student.

    How to Apply to UNG

    1. Apply for admission online using GAFutures. Both Georgia and out-of-state residents create an account with GAFutures to apply. If you cannot apply online, download a paper application. All applicants, online and paper, will pay a non-refundable application fee.
    2. Learn how to submit your official transcripts.
    3. If SAT or ACT scores are required, they must be sent to UNG from the College Board or ACT.
      • SAT code is #5497
      • ACT code is #0848
    4. If you want to be considered for in-state tuition, you must submit your verification of lawful presence.
    5. Check your application status to make sure we've received all of your documentation.
    6. If Accuplacer testing is required, you must complete the tests before registering for both orientation and classes.

    Transfer Guidelines & GPA Minimums

    GPA Minimums

    • Associate Applicants: To be considered for admission, applicants should have at least a 2.0 transferable/overall GPA.
    • Bachelor's Degree Applicants: To be considered for admission, applicants must have at least a 2.25 transferable/overall GPA. Competitive applicants should have at least a 2.5 transferable GPA.
    • Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

    Learning Support

    • Students may be screened for learning support requirements with Accuplacer testing based on standardized test scores or transferable college credit.

    Program Requirements

Some degree programs have additional applications in addition to regular UNG admission.

    International Students

    • If your secondary education was completed outside of the United States, you must meet English proficiency requirements.

    Official Transcripts

You must submit an official transcript from each institution you have attended.

If you have completed less than 30 transferable credit hours, you must submit a high school transcript.

    Submitting Your Transcripts

    • Submitting Your Transcripts

Submit an official transcript from each institution you attended.

We must receive the transcripts through e-script, Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse or another secure transcript delivery service directly from the institutions: choose Admissions Imaging Center or use admissions-gvl@ung.edu as the intended recipient.

If your institution is mailing your transcript directly to UNG: UNG Admissions Imaging Center, PO Box 1358, Gainesville, GA 30503. (Transcripts sent by the student or parent are not considered official.)

    • Credit for Courses Previously Taken

You should not assume that you will receive credit for all courses you took at your previous institutions. Transfer credit is determined by us on a course-by-case basis. Learn more about transfer credit.

    • If You Were Internationally Educated

Your transcripts must have a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).

The evaluation must be sent directly from the agency to the UNG Admissions Office.

Find a full list of NACES or AICE members.

    • Prospective Education Majors

If you want to major in education, we do not recognize transcript evaluations from World Education Services (WES).

For more details on agencies you may use, visit the Georgia Professional Standards Commission website.

    SAT/ACT Scores

If you have less than 30 completed transferable college credit hours and you graduated from high school (or would have graduated) less than 5 years ago, we will also need official SAT or ACT scores.

    Associate Pathway Minimums

    • SAT Minimums: 380 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and 360 Math
    • ACT Minimums: 12 English or Reading and 14 Math

All students whose SAT or ACT test scores fall below bachelor's degree minimums, or who are deficient in the areas of English and/or math, must also have an English and/or Math Placement Index calculated for course placement and admission purposes. Minimum scores on these indices are required in addition to the minimum SAT/ACT requirements.

    Bachelor's Degree Minimums

    • SAT Minimums: 480 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and 440 Math
    • ACT Minimums: 17 English or Reading and 17 Math

Admission to a bachelor's degree program is selective, and meeting minimum scores does not guarantee acceptance.

    Lawful Presence Documentation

Submit your verification of lawful presence documentation if you wish to pay in-state tuition.

    • This is not required if you pay out-of-state tuition.
    • Out-of-state tuition is much higher than in-state tuition. Estimate costs.
    • Admission to UNG is not contingent upon proof of lawful presence.
    • If you no longer wish to be considered for tuition at the in-state rate, please contact us at admissions-dah@ung.edu so that we can remove the requirement from your record.
