Freshman Index
Freshman Index
In addition to meeting the Required High School Curriculum (RHSC), High School GPA (HSGPA) and SAT/ACT score requirements, students applying to UNG must meet a minimum Freshman Index (FI).
The FI is calculated using an applicant’s HSGPA and SAT/ACT scores.
The only high school courses that will be considered when calculating GPA are the Required High School Curriculum courses.
Calculating Freshman Index (FI)
SAT Freshman Index
500 X (High School GPA) + 1.06 X (SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section score + SAT Math section score) - 74 = SAT FI
ACT Freshman Index
(High School GPA x 500) + (ACT Composite Score x 42) + 88 = ACT FI

What is the best advice you can give for a student looking at colleges?
Enjoy the process and be open to exploring new colleges and programs. While you may have a target college or major, you will encounter many great programs, places, and people while searching for a college. Do not let your original plans hold you back from learning about other educational possibilities. At the end of the day, enjoy the experience!
What is one thing you wish you knew in college that you know now?
Every day, I use knowledge or skills gained from random classes, activities, and interactions with my peers. When I was in college, I did not realize how much the total experience would positively affect my life. Do not overlook the “small” moments both in and outside the classroom. You never know when those will help you in the future.
