    How to Apply to UNG as a New Freshman

    First-year students applying to the University of North Georgia for spring, summer or fall 2023 and spring and summer 2024 can be considered for admission without ACT or SAT scores if they have a sufficiently high GPA.

    More Time to Apply and Submit Your Supporting Documents!

    The fall 2023 new freshman bachelor's application deadline has been extended to allow prospective students additional time to take the steps needed to become a new Nighthawk.

    Submit your application and supporting documents today! Once capacity is met for a particular campus, we will no longer be able to admit new students.

    You Are a New Freshman if You:

    • Are a graduating senior in an accredited high school or home school program.
    • Graduated less than five years ago and haven't started college yet.
    • Earned qualifying scores on the GED, HiSET or TASC and would have graduated in the past five years.
    • If you are a currently enrolled Dual Enrollment student who wishes to continue at UNG as a new freshman, you are not required to complete a new application for admission. Simply complete the Dual Enrollment Intent Form to continue your journey as a Nighthhawk!

    Earned some college credit already? Apply as a transfer student.
    In high school and want to start earning college credit? Apply for dual enrollment.

    Bachelor’s degree new freshman applicants must meet one of the following admissions criteria for spring, summer, and fall 2023 and for spring, summer 2024:

    • 3.0+ unweighted high school GPA in the required high school curriculum and on track to complete all required high school curriculum requirements.
    • 2.4+ unweighted high schools GPA in the required high school curriculum, and on track to complete all required high school curriculum requirements, with SAT scores that meet a 480 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and a 440 Math OR ACT scores that meet a 17 English or Reading and a 17 Math and a freshman index of at least 2400.

    If a bachelor’s degree applicant does not meet one of the above requirements, they will automatically be considered for associate pathway admission. Associate pathway freshman applicants must have at least a 2.0 unweighted high school GPA in the required high school curriculum to be considered for admission.

    Note: Requirements listed below are for students applying to UNG for fall 2024 or a later semester.

    How to Apply to UNG

    1. Apply for admission online using GAFutures. Both Georgia and out-of-state residents create an account with GAFutures to apply. If you cannot apply online, download a paper application. All applicants, online and paper, will pay a non-refundable application fee.
    2. Submit your official transcripts through your GAFutures Application or request an official transcript from your counselor. 
    3. SAT or ACT scores must be sent to UNG from the College Board or ACT.
      • SAT code is #5497
      • ACT code is #0848
    4. If you want to be considered for in-state tuition, you must submit your verification of lawful presence.
    5. Check your application status to make sure we've received all of your documentation.

    Requirements for All New Freshman Applicants

    • 16 or older before the first day of class
    • Must be a graduate from an accredited high school
    • Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance

    GPA Minimums

    • Bachelor's applicants: At least a 2.4 high school GPA in the Required High School Curriculum
    • Associate applicants: At least a 2.0 high school GPA in the Required High School Curriculum

    If You Dual Enrolled in High School

    If you completed dual enrollment at another university while enrolled in high school:

    • Bachelor's degree applicants: At least a 2.0 cumulative GPA on all college dual enrollment coursework. (Students with dual enrollment GPAs below this may be considered on a case-by-case basis.)
    • Associate degree applicants: Must be eligible to re-enroll at the institution where you dual enrolled. 

    Other Ways to Apply to UNG

    • If you completed high school outside of the United States, you must also meet English proficiency requirements. Learn how to apply as an international student.
    • If you graduated from an unaccredited high school or home school program, learn how to apply to UNG.

    Official Transcripts

    Submit your official high school transcript through GAFutures or request an official transcript from your counselor. If you have enrolled in any college, ask the college/s to send us an official transcript. Emailed transcripts are not considered official. Paper copies of transcripts must be received in the sealed envelope from the sending institution. Opened transcripts will not be accepted.  

    • If You Have Dual Enrollment Credit

      If you have completed dual enrollment credit by the time you apply to UNG, please request an official college transcript to be sent to UNG directly from the college where you were taking your dual enrollment credit.

      If you have dual enrolled at multiple colleges, please request that an official transcript from each school be sent to UNG.

      We must receive the transcripts through e-script, Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse or another secure transcript delivery service directly from the institutions: choose Admissions Imaging Center or use admissions-gvl@ung.edu as the intended recipient.

      If your institution is mailing your transcript directly to UNG: UNG Admissions Imaging Center, PO Box 1358, Gainesville, GA 30503. (Transcripts sent by the student or parent are not considered official.)

    • If You Earned a GED or Qualifying Scores on the HiSET or TASC
      If you earned a GED:
      • If you earned a GED in Georgia, you should request a copy from the Technical College System of Georgia.
      • If you completed your GED in another state, request a transcript.
      If you earned qualifying scores on the HiSET or TASC:
      • If you earned qualifying scores on the HiSET test, request a copy of your HiSET scores here.
      • If you earned qualifying scores on the TASC exam, request a copy of your TASC scores here.

      Please note that New Freshmen applicants who have earned one of these in lieu of high school completion are eligible for admission consideration into the associate pathway only.

      Transcripts must arrive in our office in a sealed envelope from the issuing institution. Opened transcripts cannot be used for admission.

    • If You Were Internationally Educated

      Send an official National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) evaluated document-by-document high school transcript or Certificate of Education. A GPA calculation is not required. The evaluation must be sent directly from the agency to the Admissions Office. Find a full list of NACES or AICE members.

    Associate Pathway Minimums

    • SAT Minimums: 380 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and 360 Math
    • ACT Minimums: 12 English or Reading and 14 Math
    • Accuplacer Minimums: 220 Reading, 3 Write Placer, and 216 Math (effective Summer 2022)

    Bachelor's Degree Minimums

    • SAT Minimums: 480 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and 440 Math
    • ACT Minimums: 17 English or Reading and 17 Math

    Admission to a bachelor's degree program is selective, and meeting minimum scores does not guarantee acceptance.

    Freshman Index

    The only high school courses that will be considered when calculating GPA are the Required High School Curriculum courses.

    500 X (High School GPA) + 1.06 X (SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section score + SAT Math section score) - 74 = SAT FI

    ACT Freshman Index

    (High School GPA x 500) + (ACT Composite Score x 42) + 88 = ACT FI

    Applicants who do not meet the bachelor's degree admissions requirements will automatically be considered for admission to associate degree programs. If admitted to associate programs, enrolled students may request a degree level change to bachelor's degree programs when eligible.  If you wish to appeal your acceptance into an associate pathway program, you may submit a written appeal to Molly Potts, Director of Undergraduate Admissions, at molly.potts@ung.edu.  

    Required High School Curriculum

    Bachelor's Degree

    • Complete 17 Required High School Curriculum (RHSC) units of high school course work.

    Associate Pathway

    • Complete 17 Required High School Curriculum (RHSC) units of high school course work.
      • If you are missing a course, you may be considered for admission if you meet additional guidelines.
    • You may be considered for admission if you:
      • earned qualifying scores on the GED, HiSET, or TASC
      • are at least 18 years old (exceptions for younger students may be considered)
      • meet all associate admissions requirements
      • would have graduated within 5 years of the start of your intended semester of enrollment.

    Lawful Presence Documentation

    Submit your verification of lawful presence documentation if you wish to pay in-state tuition.

    • This is not required if you pay out-of-state tuition.
    • Out-of-state tuition is much higher than in-state tuition. Estimate costs.
    • Please note that admission to UNG is not contingent upon proof of lawful presence.
    • If you no longer wish to be considered for tuition at the in-state rate, please contact us at admissions-dah@ung.edu so that we can remove the requirement from your record.

    The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy, Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 require higher education institutions to provide an annual security report and annual fire safety report that contain crime statistics and fire statistics for the three most recently completed calendar years, institutional policies or procedures for reporting crimes and current policies concerning the security of, and access to, campus facilities and residencies, as well as security considerations in the maintenance of campus facilities.
