How to Apply as a Graduate of an Unaccredited High School or Home School Program

If your home school program or high school is not accredited by one of the approved accreditation agencies, you are on the right web page.  If your program is accredited, please use the new freshman requirements and application procedures.

Requirements for All New Unaccredited Home School or High School Applicants

    • 16 or older before the first day of class.  Younger students may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
    • If you are transferring from a college you must also meet our transfer admission criteria.
    • Submit a homeschool summary form (PDF) and homeschool portfolio. If you enroll in any college, ask the college to submit an official transcript.

Approved home-school and high school accrediting agencies

    • A regional accrediting association such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACSCASI).
      • Accredited schools can be found on the Cognia (formerly AdvancED) website.
    • Association of Christian Schools International
    • Georgia Accrediting Commission
    • Georgia Association of Christian Schools
    • Georgia Independent School Association
    • Georgia Private School Accrediting Council

    • High School and College Dual Enrollment GPA Minimums

      High School

All new freshman applicants should have at least a 2.4 high school GPA in the Required High School Curriculum.

      College Dual Enrollment

Those applying for freshman admission who have completed dual enrollment through another institution while enrolled in high school should meet the following:

      • Bachelor's degree applicants: At least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on all college dual enrollment coursework. (Students with dual enrollment GPA's below this may be considered on a case-by-case basis.)
      • Associate degree applicants: Must be eligible to re-enroll at the institution where you dual enrolled.

Applicants who have been suspended from a college or university during dual enrollment may not be eligible for admission.

    • Test Score Minimums

      Associate Degree

All students whose SAT or ACT test scores fall below bachelor's degree minimums, or who are deficient in the areas of English and/or math, must also have an English and/or Math Placement Index calculated for course placement and admission purposes. Minimum scores on these indices are required in addition to the minimum SAT/ACT requirements. For further details, please review the English and Math Placement Index Calculation document.
      Associate Degree Test Score Requirements
      SAT (After March 2016) 380 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing 360 Math
SAT (Prior to March 2016) 330 Reading 310 Math
ACT 12 English or Reading 14 Math
Accuplacer (effective Summer 2022) 220 Reading and 3 Write Placer 216 Math

      Bachelor's Degree Minimums

Admission to a bachelor's degree program is selective, and meeting minimum scores does not necessarily guarantee acceptance. For the 2021 application cycle, UNG will be using a GPA only admissions model and will consider applicants who have at least a 2.8 GPA in the Required High School Curriculum for admission. Those who have a Required High School Curriculum GPA of at least 2.4 and meet USG test score minimums will also be considered.

      Bachelor's Degree Test Score Requirements
      SAT (After March 2016) 480 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing 440 Math
SAT (Prior to March 2016) 430 Reading 400 Math
ACT 17 English or Reading 17 Math
The following GPA and test scores show the middle 50% range that was accepted from the Fall 2019 bachelor's degree-seeking new freshman applicant pool.
Bachelor's Degree Middle 50% Profile (Accepted Fall 2018 Class)
Required High School Curriculum GPA 3.33 - 3.87
      SAT (Combined Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and Math) 1080 - 1220
      ACT Composite 22 - 26
    • Freshman Index

The only high school courses that will be considered when calculating GPA are the Required High School Curriculum courses.

      Calculating Freshman Index (FI)

      • After March 2016 FI: FI = 500 x (H.S. GPA) + 1.06(EBRW+MATH) – 74
      • Prior to March 2016
      • ACT FI = (High school GPA x 500) + (ACT composite score x 42) + 88

      SAT Freshman Index

(High school GPA x 500) + SAT critical reading + SAT math = SAT FI

      ACT Freshman Index

      (High school GPA x 500) + (ACT composite score x 42) + 88 = ACT FI

Applicants who do not meet the bachelor's degree admissions requirements will automatically be considered for admission to associate degree programs.
