Readmit Student Checklist

Welcome back to the University of North Georgia!

We are thrilled that you will be joining the Nighthawk family once again at the University of North Georgia! As a readmitted student, you’re bound to have tons of questions. Whether you have been away for a few semesters or a few years, the university constantly changes each academic year and so has the information pertinent to your transition as a Readmit Student. 

Nighthawk Engagement and Student Transitions (NEST) department is here to assist you. Listed below are your next steps! Please read through each checklist item carefully and explore the links provided for more information. 


1. Immediate Steps After Acceptance

Activate your UNG Account

You will use the same username and password to log in to a number of important university systems. Use the activate your UNG account link to find your username and enroll in the password management system.

Once you have activated your UNG account, all UNG contact and correspondence will be sent to your UNG email account. It is important to be checking this email consistently on a weekly or daily basis.

Please note: After a student is admitted, it may take up to 48 hours before the student's information is available to activate. If you are not able to active your UNG account after 48 hours, contact the IT help desk at 706-864-1922 for assistance with activation.

Once complete, then you will be able to access and explore:

Submit your Confirmation of Acceptance Form

You can confirm your attendance to UNG through the Check Application Status page. Log into this page using your UNG ID number or Social Security Number, and your date of birth. Beneath your admissions decision, select “Confirmation of Acceptance”. Complete the form as appropriate.

If you “confirm” your acceptance on the check application status page your registration time ticket will immediately become available. If you “confirm” your acceptance via a phone call to admissions or email, your registration time ticket will be assigned just after midnight the day you confirm, through an automated process. 

When you “confirm” your admission, the “Readmit Student Orientation (RSO)” will become available to you and an “Orientation” hold will be placed on your account until you complete Orientation. You will need to Activate your UNG account to access RSO on Banner.

You will not have to pay a “confirmation” fee.

Apply for Financial Aid

You may apply for federal financial aid at the Federal Student Aid website. Financial aid encompasses both federal and state aid programs, including federal loans, scholarships (for academics, athletics, leadership, etc.), and VA benefits. F and J non-immigrant students are not eligible to apply for federal financial aid. UNG offers a convenient payment plan through a third-party company to arrange monthly payments. If interested, students can enroll in the payment plan in Banner after class registration. Learn more about payment plans.

For financial aid questions, please visit UNG Financial Aid or call 706-864-1412. For more specific questions, you should contact your financial aid counselor.

After submitting your financial aid application, you should be very pro-active in monitoring your eligibility and award status via your BannerWeb account.

Special notes for Readmit Students currently enrolled at another institution:

  1. If you have already submitted your FAFSA for the academic year you will be attending UNG, you will need to go to fafsa.gov to make a correction to your FAFSA by adding UNG's school code: 001585
  2. Loans at your prior school must be canceled before you can request any remaining loan funds from UNG. 
  3. All final transcripts from prior schools must be submitted to UNG before your financial aid eligibility is determined.

The Financial Aid Timeline is a helpful tool for all students.

Important Note: Although you can apply for most forms of aid at any time during the academic year, it is best to submit your application and all required supporting documents before the priority deadlines to ensure your aid can be processed and awarded prior to the start of term. 

  • Fall Priority Deadline – February 14
  • Spring Priority Deadline – November 1
  • Summer Priority Deadline – April 1

Complete your Readmit Orientation Requirement

All readmitted students are required to complete an online orientation course. You do not have to attend a face-to-face or live virtual orientation. Readmit students will register for the course through the orientation system. 

  • Log in to Banner.
  • Go to the Student tab.
  • Click on the Orientation Reservation link.

Please note that you must submit your confirmation of acceptance before accessing the orientation reservation system. A payment of $40* is requested at the time of reservation. Payment extensions are available and can be requested by submitting the Payment Extension Request Form.

Once you complete the signup process, you may begin online Readmit Student Orientation (RSO) immediately. RSO will take about an hour to complete. You will also have the opportunity to save your work, take a break and continue with the modules later. You must complete the Orientation modules before you can register for classes.

Complete eCore Introduction Quiz

Complete the eCore Introduction Quiz whether or not you plan to take an online course at this time. The quiz takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

eCore courses are designed, developed, taught and supported by faculty and staff from the University System of Georgia (USG) and are a great option for completing core curriculum requirements.

Please note: The eCore academic calendar (start/stop dates) is different from the normal UNG academic calendar. 

Visit the UNG Online Learning web page for an explanation of the difference between eCore classes and UNG Online classes, as well as other important information.

Confirm your Housing Arrangements

Only the Dahlonega Campus offers on-campus residential housing. Students enrolling on all other campuses can use the off-campus housing portal to learn more about rental and roommate options near those campuses.

There is a residential housing requirement on the Dahlonega campus for students that have not satisfied the minimum semester hour requirement with very limited exceptions. All full-time students accepted on the Dahlonega campus of UNG should carefully review the Residence Policy.

Dahlonega Residential Students (Non-Cadet)

If accepted as a residential student on the Dahlonega Campus, you must submit a housing application. Once your Confirmation of Acceptance form processes, the Office of Residence Life will email additional instructions via UNG Student Email. This email also signifies that you now have access to the Housing portal/application process. You are encouraged to start the process as soon as possible and monitor your UNG emails closely once you have started for further instructions.

Please note that even if you decide not to attend UNG, you are still responsible for the $150 housing application fee if you have already applied for housing. If you decide not to attend after choosing a bed and submitting the housing contract, you must submit a completed Housing Cancellation Request to the Office of Residence Life.  Financial penalties may apply.

Cadet Housing Contract

Cadets will need to visit the Cadet Housing page to sign housing contracts.

Cadets who apply for housing will be charged a $150 one-time, nonrefundable housing application fee. After signing your Cadet Housing Contract, the Assistant Commandant will notify the business office to apply this fee to your student invoice within 7-10 business days and you may pay it with your tuition and fees.

Be sure to follow all other steps in the Cadet Admissions Manual.

Submit a Photo for your UNG ID Card (Nighthawks Card)

In January 2019, UNG switched to a new ID card. You are required to get a new ID made if your current ID is older than January 2019. Visit the  UNG ID Card Photo Submission page to see photo guidelines and the photo submission portal.

2. Actions to Complete for Academic Advisement and to Prepare for Registration

Review your Transfer Credit Evaluation

Log in to BannerWeb to review your academic transcript (Banner Web > Student Tab > Student Records > Student Tranguid) and ensure that all credit has been articulated. If you do not see a course on your transcript that you believe should be there, there may be a few reasons:

  • In-progress courses – credit for courses you are currently enrolled in, have completed while in the admissions process, or completed since the last time you submitted a transcript from your previous institution will not be applied until an official transcript indicating grades is received
  • Course credit for AP or other test credit – Official scores may not have been received from the testing agency used to take the tests, which is needed to post this credit
  • Non-transferrable courses – some credit may not have been accepted based on the accreditation of the institution where the courses were taken or based on the technical nature of the coursework.

Any test scores or transcripts that have not been sent to UNG should be sent as soon as possible (with final grades or scores indicated) to ensure application of appropriate credit to your record.

Schedule an Academic Advising Appointment

Academic Advising

Your academic advisor is listed on your “Student Tranguid” under Student Records on Banner. You may contact your academic advisor directly to schedule an appointment.

You can begin to create a personalized plan of study before your advising appointment by accessing Degree Works via Banner. Learn more about using Degree Works. The Course Availability Guide will also show you available classes that may fit your schedule.

Meet with your academic advisor (virtually) and plan your courses.

Check for Holds

Check for holds on Banner under the “Student” tab > “Student Records”> “View Holds”
All holds must be resolved before you can register. 

Orientation (OR) Hold: The OR hold will be removed once you successfully complete the online Readmit Student Orientation modules on Banner. To complete RSO, login to Banner, then choose the "student" tab and then "Orientation Reservation." 

Other Student Holds Explained

Please note you are required to have up to date immunization records on file with Student Health Services. If updates are needed, you will have a hold listed on your Check Application Status page with “immunization incomplete”. You can contact Student Health Services for more information. This hold will prevent you from registering for classes. However, once you reserve a seat in orientation we can turn off this registration restriction until after you complete the orientation session. Please contact Nighthawk Engagement & Student Transitions if you need assistance with moving this hold back.

Set up your Disability Accommodations (if applicable)

As you may already know, obtaining special accommodations in college is different than it is in high school.  If you previously had an IEP, 504 plan, or other documentation that would reflect the need for accommodations, please contact the Office of Student Disability Services to discuss your specific needs and the process to receive accommodations at UNG. Please be advised that the intake process takes time, so it’s important to schedule an appointment before the start of term to ensure your accommodations are in place when classes begin. Students must actively request accommodations, even when they transfer from another college, through the Student Disability Services office in order to receive them.

Once registered, you will need to notify your professor(s) in order to receive special accommodations.

3. Class Registration and Tuition Payment

If you “confirmed” your acceptance on the check application status page you will have your registration time ticket available immediately. If you “confirmed” your acceptance via a phone call to admissions or email, your registration time ticket will be assigned just after midnight through an automated process.

Once you have completed Orientation, completed academic advising and resolved any other “holds”, you will be ready to register.

If you “confirmed” your acceptance via a phone call to admissions or email, your registration time ticket will be assigned just after midnight through an automated process. When you “confirm” your admission, you will then be able to access the online “Orientation” system and a hold will be placed on your account until you complete Orientation. Once you have completed Orientation, completed academic advising and resolved any other “holds”, you will be ready to register. 

Class Registration

Once you have chosen your classes, you should confirm your choices with your academic advisor and then register. If you have no holds, you can register prior to your academic advising appointment and then use the add/drop system to make any necessary schedule changes after meeting with your advisor. 

Run Degree Works again after you register. All of the classes you have registered for will show up as "IP." Make sure your courses are all there and that they fill a degree requirement.

Note regarding D2L (UNG ONLINE) courses: If you register for a D2L course PRIOR to drop/add, you will be able to see the course in D2L approximately two days before classes begin. If you add a D2L class during drop/add, it will be 24 hours after you add the course before you are able to access the course.

Schedule Adjustments

Students have until noon on the last day of drop/add to make schedule adjustments, pending course availability.

Please review the Core Curriculum and your Plan of Study before attempting any schedule adjustments.

Find information on how to register using the Nighthawk Registration system. You will be able to search for in-person, hybrid, and online courses within the Nighthawk Registration system.

You can reach out to your Academic Advisor for assistance if you are unable to adjust your schedule on your own.

Review Invoice, Pay Tuition and Fees, & Sign Up for Payment Plan

Please visit the Payment Deadlines & Information web page for approximate information on when to pay fees. Read about viewing and paying your student invoice.

If you have been classified as an out-of-state resident for tuition classification purposes but believe this designation is incorrect, please review the residency policy and complete the Application for In-State Tuition.

4. Items to Complete Before the Start of Classes

Register for a Nighthawk Personalized Campus Visit (Optional)

Once the orientation requirement is completed, the student has the option to register for an individualized in-person campus visit lead by one of our Orientation Leaders. This visit provides an opportunity to tour the student’s primary campus, “drop-in” to selected offices for more specific information and schedule a cadet uniform fitting, if applicable. To register for this optional personalized campus visit, log into banner and proceed to the orientation menu.

Order your Virtual Parking Permit

All vehicles on campus are required to register for a valid UNG parking permit. Parking permits are issued annually by Parking Services. Learn more about registering your vehicle here.

Review the Tech Talk Guide

The Tech Talk guide is an introduction to the highly utilized technologies available at UNG. Students should be familiar with each of the items in this guide.

To access the Tech Talk Checklist, log in to UNG Connect. Go to Menu Bar on the left side of the UNG Connect home page. Scroll down to My Checklist and click on Tech Talk Guide. You will see a series of items with clickable links. As you complete each item, please mark the checkbox. Keep going until your completion bar reads 100%.

Order Textbooks

Find textbooks for your courses at the UNG Bookstore.

Register for Campus Mailbox (Dahlonega - Residential Only)

Residential students on the Dahlonega Campus can complete the Mailbox Request Form to receive a mailbox at the UNG Post Office located in Hoag Student Center.
