Shortly before Virginia "Ginny" Feher retired as librarian of the University of North Georgia's (UNG) Oconee Campus after 33 years in higher education, she received a prestigious accolade.

Feher was awarded the Bob Richardson Memorial Award from the Georgia Library Association (GLA) during the organization's annual conference in October 2020, which was held virtually. Established in 1999, the award honors those who have given outstanding service to the association.

"I was honored to be recognized for my contributions to the association," Feher said. "It was a nice way to cap off my career and segue into my retirement."

According to the GLA, Feher made significant contributions to the association through unselfish, dedicated service that required extensive investment of time and effort.

Feher continues to serve as the editor of the Georgia Library Quarterly, which is the official journal of the Georgia Library Association. She said she takes pride in serving on the editorial board because it gives her the opportunity to help librarians publish and promote scholarship in the profession.

"While working in libraries, I also helped faculty, students and staff find materials for their scholarship, and I was occasionally listed in the acknowledgement sections of books," she said. "This was rewarding, because I saw the fruits of my labor."
