The University of North Georgia's (UNG) Golden Eagle Band has been selected to co-headline the 2021 Southeast North Carolina Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 6 in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. Sharing the parade spotlight will be the Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes.

"The parade likes to feature college bands with links to the military," Dr. Bart Walters, adjunct professor of music and Golden Eagle Band director, said. "I thought it would be a great opportunity for the students, because it will be an educational and performance trip."

During the parade, UNG students will see a few military bands such as the Marine Band from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; a Navy fleet band from Norfolk, Virginia; and the North Carolina National Guard Band.

"Our students will also see some of the best professional military bands in action," Walters said.

UNG students also will visit Fort Fisher State Historic Site, a Confederate fort during the American Civil War; and the USS North Carolina, a World War II battleship that participated in every naval offensive in the Pacific.

"We are visiting Fort Fisher because of its significance in the overall victory for the Union in the Civil War," Walters said. "Within a few months, Gen. Robert E. Lee would surrender the Confederate forces to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia."
