Dustin Ward, a St. Louis, Missouri, native, and University of North Georgia (UNG) senior, will be heading to London next spring for an internship with Deloitte accounting firm. Ward, who is pursuing a degree in accounting, also earned a scholarship from the Georgia Society of CPAs Educational Foundation.

The program lasts for three months and is a paid position in the US Business Tax group with Deloitte LLP in London. During this time, interns prepare tax return work papers, identify and research issues, and use software to prepare tax returns.

"What inspired me to apply for this internship is the chance to work for a top accounting firm like Deloitte while experiencing life abroad," Ward said. "I expect to learn about tax, as well as learn more about the international side of accounting."

Ward was also part of the Mike Cottrell College of Business spring break trip to London in 2024.

The program will launch in January 2025, and Ward will be there until April as one of the few chosen participants.

In addition, as a 2024 Georgia Society of CPAs Educational Foundation Scholarship recipient, Ward was awarded $1,000. Ward shared he was prompted to apply by Dr. Ellen Best, accounting and law department head and associate professor.

"She has been an invaluable mentor for all the accounting students in the Mike Cottrell College of Business," Ward said.

Ward was excited to share the news of his accomplishments with Best.

"These accomplishments are significant turning points in my career, and I can't wait to take advantage of the chance to increase my knowledge of accounting and taxation," Ward said.
