University of North Georgia (UNG) men's basketball head coach Dan Evans is in elite company as one of nine men's basketball head coaches named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Board of Directors in September.

Joining Evans on the NABC Board of Directors in 2025-26 as new members are: Baylor head coach Scott Drew, Yale head coach James Jones, Kentucky head coach Mark Pope, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer, Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry, Illinois head coach Brad Underwood, Pomona-Pitzer head coach Charles Katsiaficas, and Liberty head coach Ritchie McKay.

"Coach Evans is an outstanding representative of Nighthawk Nation on the court and in the community. We are proud to see the NABC recognize the leader he is and give him this opportunity to serve among the game's leaders," UNG Athletic Director Mary Rob Plunkett said.

The energy Evans brings to UNG is a catalyzing force as UNG builds the most competitive, value-added Division II athletics program in the nation.

Evans is the only NCAA Division II coach to join the Board of Directors in 2025-26. He joins NABC Board of Directors President and Minnesota State head coach Matt Margenthaler as the only current DII members of the board.

"I'm honored to be given the opportunity to represent Division II basketball on the NABC Board of Directors. It means a lot to positively impact our game on behalf of our coaches," Evans said. "The NABC does tremendous work to improve and grow amateur basketball and assist coaches nationwide. Division II basketball is very special, and to be able to sit among the caliber of coaches from all levels and represent ours means a lot. A sincere thank you to Craig, Nate, Matt, and the entire NABC for including me."

Evans holds a 97-66 record in six seasons at UNG and has led the Nighthawks to their only two NCAA Division II tournament appearances ever in 2023 and 2024. His 2024 team won the Peach Belt Conference tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. His program boasts a 67-29 mark the past three seasons, including 13 PBC victories each season in 2023 and 2024.

The NABC Board of Directors is the NABC's top leadership body, providing strategic oversight of the NABC's daily operations and advocacy work. The board's composition includes representatives from all three NCAA divisions, along with the NAIA, two-year college and high school levels.

Evans and his counterparts joining the Board of Directors this year officially began their terms on Sept. 2 by participating in the annual NABC Board of Directors fall meeting.
