Kathy Mathis

Kathy Mathis, MSN, RN, CNE, is a Lecturer in the Department of Nursing at the University of North Georgia. She brings decades of diverse nursing experience in critical care, perioperative nursing, nursing administration, leadership, and nursing education. After earning her Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), she began her clinical career in ICU/CCU nursing before serving eight years as an Operating Room Nurse in the Army Nurse Corps, where she developed expertise in perioperative patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and clinical leadership.

After gaining extensive clinical experience, Kathy earned a bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, which prepared her for leadership positions in nursing administration. Recognizing her passion for mentoring future nurses, she later completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing Education at Chamberlain University. Before joining UNG full time, she served in nursing leadership roles with Northeast Georgia Health System while teaching as adjunct clinical faculty.

Kathy is committed to preparing competent, compassionate nurses through evidence-based instruction, clinical mentorship, and the integration of critical thinking into nursing practice. She strives to create an engaging learning environment that promotes professionalism, lifelong learning, and excellence in patient care. Outside the classroom, she enjoys reading, bicycling, camping, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family while continuing to support the advancement of the nursing profession.
