2020 Online Instruction Tips for Students

    [For the fall 2020 semester,
more classes will be available online
or a hybrid of both face-to-face
    and online. For those students
new to this format, here are some tips:]
    [Raluca Viman-Miller
Assistant professor of political science and international affairs]
I have a few tips for students as they learn remotely, and some might be
    new to it.
    [Tip #1
    Talk to your professors regularly.]
The one tip that I cannot reiterate
    enough is communication, communication,
    communication. Students communicate with your
instructor on a regular basis by checking both emails.
    [Tip #2
    Ask for help.]
Speak with the UNG specialized support staff such as DETI,
IT, student services if you have any technical or instructional
issues. You are not alone. A community is around you,
and all you need to do is access it.
    [Tip #3
    Explore the D2L website.]
Explore the D2L platform. Push all the buttons.
Explore every sub-section and know what type of information it holds.
    [Tip #4
    Use the calendars]
Follow the D2L calendar on the side of the screen. Set reminders to know when
assignments are due, or set up a calendar on your phone. Use
good old-fashioned pen and paper and an agenda.
Whatever works for you, but do not miss
    assignments.
    [Tip #5
    Do not procrastinate]
Don't wait until the day before to
complete an assignment. Read the instructions ahead of time to
figure out how much time you need in order to complete that assignment and
give yourself an ideal start date at this time.
    Procrastination is your worst enemy.
    If you miss an
assignment, contact your instructor ASAP. If you know
that you are likely to miss an assignment,
communicate ahead of time with your instructor and
    seek alternative arrangements.
    You can do this well,
and we are here for you.
    Keep up the good work,
and we will see you soon.
