    Community Service

    Student Involvement strives to connect students with opportunities for meaningful service at the campus, local, and global levels.  We provide opportunities on all campuses for students to help make an impact in the world through service, volunteerism, and servant leadership.

    Signature Events

    Service Saturday

    At least once a month the Office of Student Involvement hosts Service Saturday in partnership with UNG’s volunteer community partners. Students are sure to sure to have a fun and impactful experience. 

    UNG Day of Service

    UNG Day of Service includes students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members serving together at community partner sites in the main campus Dahlonega. Everyone can find an opportunity to fit their interests and connect further with the UNG Community!

    This event takes place in early-April with details posted in early Spring semester.

    Track Your Service Hours

    Whether or not you are volunteering with a local organization or a UNG club, you can track your service hours in UNG Connect.

    Submitting Service Hours in UNG Connect:

    1. Log into your UNG Connect account and navigate to the home page
    2. Click on the left side menu, scroll down to “My Involvement.”
    3. Click Service Hours, then click “Add Service Hours”

    How to Complete the Service Hours Form:

    1. Choose the opportunity type, either “Experience” or “Event”
    2. If the hours were completed for a UNG Connect registered organization, select which organization you are completing them on behalf of. You must be a member of that organization for them to appear in your drop-down options.
      1. If the hours were completed with an organization this is not affiliated with the institution, then fill in the name or the organization.
    3. Enter the total number of service hours you completed.
    4. Choose the date the Service Hours were completed on.
    5. Attaching a photo of you completing your service opportunity is optional. However, it is highly encouraged to attach a photo.
    6. Select the UNG Connect group or fill out the name and email address of the organization contact who can verify the service hours that you are submitting.

    Create/Edit Experience and Service Hours:

    1. Fill out the title of the experience and the role you held in it.
    2. Add a 1-3 sentence description of your service opportunity.
    3. Select one of six “Experience Type” options.
    4. Select the date(s) that the service was completed on. If the service went over multiple days, please select the start and finish dates on the calendar.
    5.  “No” should be pre-selected next to the “paid” option. In order for Service Hours to count, it must be an unpaid opportunity.
    6. In the bottom right corner, select the “Save” button.

    Examples of Volunteering That CAN Be Logged as Service Hours:

    • Volunteer or service-learning experiences with organizations
    • Service hours done with a faith-based organization as long as direct service is offered to the general population with no faith requirement 
    • Time spent completing required training for a specific volunteer activity
    • Virtual volunteer opportunities

    Examples of Volunteering That CANNOT Be Logged for Service Hours:

    • Any effort for which the student is paid (e.g. cash, gift card, etc.) or receives other significant compensation (e.g. anything of significant monetary value).
    • Driving time to and from volunteer experiences and travel, leisure, and sleep time on an away service trip.
    • Shadowing experiences or self-improvement experiences.
    • Hours for donations or time spent collecting items or donating money to organizations (this includes blood donations)
    • Time spent in general student club or organization activities, fundraisers for the student organization, and meetings. Specify all activities not related to the volunteer experience.

    *Not everything you submit will be approved. Approval is subject to the Office of Student Involvement.
