Campus Guidelines & Safety

We are looking forward to welcoming back students, faculty, and staff for fall 2020. These important guidelines promote health and safety on each of UNG’s five campuses, and apply to students, faculty, staff and campus visitors.

Effective July 15, use of face coverings is required by students, faculty, staff, and visitors in UNG buildings and facilities where six feet of social distancing may not be possible. Face covering use will be in addition to and is not a substitute for social distancing. Face coverings are not required in one's own residence hall room or suite, when alone in an enclosed office or study room, or in campus outdoor settings where social distancing requirements are met.

Distribution of UNG Face Coverings

UNG will provide all employees and students with a reusable and washable cloth face covering before fall semester.

Masks will also be available during Week of Welcome events on all campuses. Students and employees may also pick-up masks at the following dates and times. The Dahlonega, Gainesville, and Oconee campuses will be drive-up events where students and employees may pick up their mask without exiting their vehicle.

If you have any questions, please contact Greg Williams.

High-Risk Populations

Upon request, students, faculty and staff who are at higher risk for severe illness with COVID-19 will be given an opportunity to continue to learn or work from home. For more information, visit the current student information or employee information pages.

Campus Visitors

  • To allow for social distancing, campus visits for new and prospective students will be adjusted to smaller groups with staggered start times to avoid contact with each other. Virtual elements will also be incorporated as an option for campus tours. Get more details on our Visit UNG page.
  • Visitors may come onto campus for UNG business only and must follow UNG, GDPH and CDC social distancing guidelines.
  • In-room visitation in residence halls will be prohibited during the social distancing phase.
  • Guests will not be permitted within the residence halls.
  • Residential students must meet and visit with any guests outside of their residence halls.

Guidance & Plans

UNG's plans follow guidance from the University System of Georgia (USG), the Governor's COVID- 19 Task Force, the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to make public health-informed decisions affecting the status of its campuses.

The COVID-19 situation is fluid, and guidance will very likely change over time, even after plans for fall semester 2020 are enacted.
