    Writing Center Video Transcript

Grace Ammons: The writing center is something that I would  highly recommend to any student. It's been incredibly helpful for me. I've seen it be incredibly helpful for other students. My name is Grace Ammons. I am a linguistics major and  a writing tutor.

Corey Jenrette: Well our job as writing tutors is  to help you. Since most people don't usually have  a lot of experience workshop and their writing I try to make that experience as comforting and  welcoming as possible.

Grace: You can make an appointment with somebody in person or you can get tutoring online.

Corey: You have 30 minutes for the tutor that is dedicated to your piece of writing whatever it is.

Grace: Whenever a student signs up for an appointment they send me a copy of their essay so that way I have time to kind of look over it, do some edits, then when the student comes in and I meet with them I ask them about the topic of the paper how they feel about it, any questions that  they have, or problems they came across.

Corey: I just have them come sit down and just ask them exactly what they want to go over, maybe you want to work on grammar mistakes, if you want to work on organization or content whatever areas of improvement I'll read closely for that.

Grace: I try to emphasize the positive of their content realizing that what you have is good  and show them how it could be stronger. That tends to be more effective. Watching them get the gears turning and learning how to vocalize that it's really cool because I think that they start to make connections that they wouldn't have made otherwise. Every student that I tutor teaches me something new because you're always in this collaborative effort. I feel like the tutoring center is the best place to grow.

Corey: Don't feel intimidated. We're here to help. Come see us with any kind of writing that you have. I feel like it's a great opportunity for anybody really.
