FLATS Testing

The FLATS (Foreign Language Achievement Testing Services) program administered through Brigham Young University provides students the opportunity to receive college credit for over 60 different foreign languages.

Cumming Campus

Due to the limited spacing on the Cumming Campus, please contact our office at 470-239-3038 before you register to check for availability.

Students wishing to test (FL 1001, FL 1002, and FL 2001) in languages - see list - may use the Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service (FLATS) offered by Brigham Young University. The computerized test is taken by correspondence with a $50.00 exam fee that can be paid on the Brigham Young University website. A $35.00(MasterCard, Visa) administration fee* is required to Register for your FLATS Exam, before you can schedule your appointment at our Testing Center. *All transactions are nonrefundable and nontransferable. The $50.00 payment is made when registering online with Brigham Young University. You will also need to call the Cumming Campus Testing Office at 470-239-3038 after you Register for your FLATS Exam to schedule your appointment.

Test Format: Most tests have listening, reading and grammar components. The tests are multiple-choice format. Most tests require at least a 60-70% to pass; this varies based on the difficulty of the language. All tests are on a pass/fail basis and graded credit will not be given. Students are allowed two and a half hours to complete their test.

Credit by Examination: Students may earn a maximum of 14 academic credits in select modern languages through the Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service (FLATS) offered by Brigham Young University (BYU).

Dahlonega Campus

Students wishing to test (FL 1001, FL 1002, and FL 2001) in languages - see list - may use the Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service (FLATS) offered by Brigham Young University. The computerized test is taken by correspondence with a $50.00 exam fee that can be paid on the Brigham Young University website. A $35.00(MasterCard, Visa) administration fee* is required to Register for your FLATS Exam, before you can schedule your appointment at our Testing Center.*All transactions are nonrefundable and nontransferable. The $35.00(MasterCard, Visa) administration fee* is payable through RegisterBlast.*All transactions are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

After receiving the email confirmation from BYU you will need to Register for your FLATS exam, then call our office at 678-717-3863 to schedule your appointment time and date.
