Mathematics (B.S.)
The Bachelor or Science with a major in mathematics will prepare you with critical thinking skills to work in a multitude of fields. These fields can include but are not limited to Statistics, Actuarial Sciences, Mathematical Modeling, Education, Engineering, and Cryptography.

Course Planning Guide
A course planning guide is provided below for a mathematics major who takes a statistics minor. Mathematics majors in their first two years should focus on completing the core curriculum, efficiently working through the Key Prerequisites for mathematics content (MATH 2460 and MATH 2800) and beginning 3000-level mathematics content courses. The degree map is a suggestion only. Please discuss your plan of study with your advisor to make sure that you meet all requirements.
Please note that a minor is required, but the content for the minor is left to the student's choice from current UNG minors. You should speak with an advisor in the content area of your chosen minor (at the latest) during your second year so that you can complete the prerequisites and coursework for that minor.
Freshman Year
Mathematics majors should complete Calculus II (MATH 2460) during the first year because it is a Key Prerequisite. If Calculus II has not been completed by spring semester of the first year, mathematics majors should consider taking it in the summer before the second year begins.

Core Curriculum requirements have been met. Area A of the core is complete (MATH 1450, ENGL 1101 and 1102) as are Area B (HIST 1112 and Foreign Language) and Area D (MATH 2460 and PHYS 1111(L) and 1112(L)). A lab science sequence is required in Area D.
Sophomore Year
Mathematics majors should complete Intro to Proofs (MATH 2800) by end of the second year because it is a Key Prerequisite. If Proofs has not been completed by spring semester of the second year, mathematics majors should ensure that it is completed no later than fall semester of the third year. Otherwise, graduation may be delayed.
