    Middle Grades Education (B.S.)

    The Bachelor of Science with a major in middle grades education degree prepares students to work in grades 4-8. Middle level candidates select two teaching field concentrations (Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts). All middle level cohorts begin in the fall semester. During the fall placement of the senior year, candidates are assigned to selected area schools and expected to attend preplanning along with the classroom teachers.

    What Your Journey Could Look Like

    First Year

    • First-year students take core classes which will provide a solid foundation for further study.
    • Get involved in student government, or after your first semester, explore fraternity and sorority life.   

    Sophomore & Junior Years

    • Become eligible to apply to the College of Education.
    • You'll get more classroom experience with a 60 hour practicum in your junior year.
    • Sophomores and juniors typically take introductory education courses before determining which content areas to focus on. Once a content area or areas are chosen, you will focus more heavily on courses in those disciplines.

    Senior Year

    • Seniors take specialized secondary education courses.
    • UNG's student teaching experience is one of the most immersive in the state and students will spend over 800 hours getting real classroom experience before they graduate.
