Middle Grades Education (B.S.)

The Bachelor of Science with a major in middle grades education degree prepares students to work in grades 4-8. Middle level candidates select two teaching field concentrations (Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts). All middle level cohorts begin in the fall semester. During the fall placement of the senior year, candidates are assigned to selected area schools and expected to attend preplanning along with the classroom teachers.


Program to be offered in Gainesville beginning fall 2019 with applications coming due in spring 2019.

Admissions Information

To be eligible for admission to the Middle Grades Education Program, a student must:

  1. Complete 40 semester hours of credit applicable to the degree program with an overall grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  2. Completed EDUC 2110, EDUC 2120, EDUC 2130 and Area F courses with a grade of C or higher, and successfully complete the field experience hours and display the professional dispositions required to work with students.
  3. Complete Area A with a grade of C or higher.
  4. Proof of successful completion or exemption of GACE program admissions test
    • You may exempt GACE program admissions test if you can provide proof of any of the following:
      • SAT minimum score 1000 combined Verbal/Critical Reading and Math for tests taken prior to July 1, 2019
      • SAT minimum score 1080 combined Evidence Based Reading/Writing and Math for tests taken on or after July 1, 2019
    • A copy of your SAT, ACT, or GACE Program Admissions score report is REQUIRED with your application. See our FAQ page for additional information.
    • Transfer students must supply an official copy of test scores (SAT, ACT, or GACE Program Admissions).
  5. Complete an application for admission to the teacher certification program. Application deadlines are posted on the department web page.
  6. Provide an updated Fingerprint/criminal background check through a professional agency identified by UNG.
  7. Provide proof of professional liability insurance that is valid through projected graduation date. This insurance can be purchased through either of the professional educational organizations listed on the application form.
