Career fairs offer chance to stand out

    January 31, 2023
UNG students will have the opportunity to chat with potential employers this spring at career fairs.

    Article By: Agnes Hina

The University of North Georgia's (UNG) career fairs are back this spring and open to all students and alumni. Hosted every semester at both the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses by Career Services, these fairs aim to include employers who are hiring from a wide array of majors.

"Career fairs are a great way to learn about local and sometimes national employers. They are specifically looking for what they call 'early-career' talent, or college students who are getting ready to graduate," Lisa A. Walker, assistant director of Career Services, said. "We often hear students who have attended their first career fair say how good it was to have attended and they learned about so many unexpected things."

On Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the all-majors career fair will focus on students and alumni interested in full-time career entry-level positions and internship opportunities. It will be held in the Convocation Center at UNG's Dahlonega Campus.

Another all-majors fair will take place March 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Robinson Ballroom of the Student Center at the Gainesville Campus.

UNG students have a reputation for being smart and hard-working. These spring fairs are a chance to continue their excitement.

On Feb. 7, the nursing fair will focus on students currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or alumni who have earned a nursing degree. It will be held in the Gainesville Campus Health Science Lounge Area from 1-4 p.m.

Another college-specific fair will focus on teacher recruitment and will be held on Feb. 13 from 4-6 p.m. in the Cleveland Ballroom of the Nesbitt building on the Gainesville Campus.

Attendees can expect to find employers who are actively recruiting new graduates for entry-level positions, as well as potential internship opportunities for current students.

UNG sociology alumna Amy Boone shared just how much she benefited from Career Services.

"With the help of Dr. Edward Lai (associate director of Career Services), I received an incredible, above the starting pay range offer at my dream job. He and I kept in contact throughout the process. Career Services is undeniably dedicated to alumni succeeding in their career goals," Boone said.

UNG Career Services advises all participants who plan to attend career fairs to bring extra copies of their resumes and wear a suit and tie or a nice dress.

"Employers are always excited to attend UNG career fairs because they know they will find great candidates for their companies," Walker said. "UNG students have a reputation for being smart and hard-working. These spring fairs are a chance to continue their excitement."
