Steps to Successful Career Planning 2-Year Degree Programs

Year One: Prepare

  • Learn about yourself. Take a career assessment like Focus 2 to develop or confirm your career goal.
  • Meet with a Career Specialist to discuss your results and career plans.
  • Join a student organization related to your professional interests. Be an active member.
  • Seek a summer internship.
  • Find and talk with professionals who do the work in which you are interested.

Year Two: Launch

  • Join a professional association related to your field.
  • Write your resume and learn to create cover letters.
  • Create or refresh your LinkedIn profile. Review all your social media profiles with an eye toward employment.
  • Learn to interview and visit a career specialist for a mock interview to get feedback.
  • Learn how and where to search for opportunities.

Visit Career Services once per semester to review your progress. Register on College Central Network to find internships and part-time jobs.

Meet with a Career Specialist to develop an action plan. Take steady steps all year long to graduate with a job or admission to your next academic program.
