Five Steps for a Successful Job Search

1. Create a focused to-do list
   • Include small manageable tasks every day to move closer to your goals.
2. Target quality over quantity
   • Take self-assessments in Focus 2 to discover your core career values.
   • Explore career pathways and value alignment using O*NET OnLine.
   • Browse through our Job & Career Resources 
3. Build your Network
   • Refine your LinkedIn Profile: Start connecting with recruiters, industry peers, and fellow UNG alumni.
   • Join a professional association: Access job boards, industry mentorship, and field-specific conferences
4. Campus Resources
   • Use our online Job Board - 12twenty is Career Services' new online job board. You may notice some overlap with Handshake through the end of September as we transition to our new platform. As our 12twenty network continues to grow, we encourage you to take advantage of both resources to support your job search.

5. Maintain Balance & Self-Care
   • A job search is a marathon, not a sprint. Protect your well-being by staying connected with family and friends. Make time daily for activities that recharge such as a favorite hobby, reading, physical movement, or listening to a podcast.

A single exam, decision, or interview outcome does not define your ability or future success. Rejection is simply feedback to help you refine your strategy.

4 Steps to Turn a Setback into a Comeback

1. Reflect: Allow time to process, then review what went well, what can improve, and where to request feedback.
2. Build: Strengthen your qualifications through certifications, research, leadership roles, internships, or volunteering.
3. Connect: Seek guidance from faculty mentors, advisors, alumni, and Career Services instead of isolating yourself.
4. Pivot: Be adaptable. exploring alternative majors, internships, or entry-level roles can still lead to your ultimate goal.
