    Katelyn Lee

    Finance Georgia Legislative Internship Program

How did you hear about your internship?

Mrs. Lisa Walker brought the opportunity to my attention during a meeting when trying to help provide me with career possibilities related to both my personal interests and my major. She introduced me to Mrs. Lisa Geddings who gave me further information on the internship program along with helping me with my resume! If they did not tell me about the program, I would have never attempted to apply on my own. I am quite grateful to them both for going above and beyond in helping me along with periodically checking in to see how things are going!

What has been the most valuable (or favorite) part of the experience?

I love meeting new people and making connections, I have met an abundance of people from all different fields around the state. The atmosphere alone is truly unique and special at the Capitol. No day is the same; there is always something new happening, which I love. I am fortunate enough to have Representatives and administrative assistants in my office who genuinely care and take the time to explain a variety of things whether it is a bill they have passed or the ‘why’ behind them running for office, or even just trying to get to know me.

How will this help you in the future?

The amount of people I meet on a daily basis, simply by having a conversation has opened possibilities for jobs when I graduate. For example, Representative Will Wade (who is the Dawsonville Rep), upon meeting and speaking with him sharing I attend UNG, when I ran into him just the other day he told me he would keep me in mind and to keep in touch upon concluding the internship in regards to a job! Along with getting insight from others on job fields I did not even consider. The connections I have built can only help me after doing this internship.
