    Understanding an organization’s finances is critical to its success. A business degree in finance enables graduates to prepare, provide and present financial analysis to an organization to evaluate positions, profit feasibility, and various other decisions that are influenced by financial position.

    Experience the Finance Major Program

    Our program will prepare you well for a job in the financial industry and for graduate studies in the nation's best schools. Our dedicated faculty introduces students to theoretical constructs and real-world applications in a wide range of financial topics, including investments, corporate finance, financial institutions, risk management, insurance, and emerging financial technology, making them strong competitors in the finance job market.

    We tie financial theories to real-world applications and examples through trading simulations in Investments, case studies in Corporate Finance courses, and other engaging activities.

    What Your Journey Could Look Like

    Your First Year

    Start your journey by discovering what you want to do and who you want to be. Take various introductory courses and review your opportunities. Your initial course work in general business fields would likely include Accounting, Economics, Computer Information Systems, and the Legal Environment of Business. 

    Reach out to Academic Advising for guidance on your curriculum options.

    Sophomore Year

    As you continue to define your goals. You may still be uncertain about your chosen field, however by the end of this year, most students finalize decisions regarding their majors.

    It is time to conduct final research about different fields and careers. School is always challenging. Find some good friends and connect with peers by joining some student organizations to support you along the way.

    Junior Year

    You can now start taking various Finance courses. These courses may be challenging so that you may be spending more time on your studies.

    It is also a good time to think about your internship, which may be crucial for your future professional success. An internship may generate a part-time or even a full-time permanent job offer. Remember to enjoy your junior year. School time passes quickly.

    Senior Year

    It is a busy year! You are diving deeper into finance concentration courses, and becoming an expert in the field. You may start applying for different job openings or graduate programs, asking your professors for recommendation letters, interviewing with different schools or companies, and making your network stronger. Simultaneously, you are getting ready to complete your journey by walking across the stage at commencement.

    How to Become a Marketing Major at UNG

    1. Apply to UNG. Learn how to apply.
    2. Bachelor's degree-seeking students may declare a business major at any point, but must successfully complete an online advising module related to their business major and meet Mike Cottrell College of Business admission requirements prior to enrolling in any advanced 3000/4000 level course.
    3. All business majors must complete professional development requirements through the PROS program.

    Beta Alpha Psi

    Beta Alpha Psi is the international honorary and service organization for accounting and finance students. Beta Alpha Psi provides:

    • Opportunities to develop technical and professional skills to complement your business curriculum
    • Engagement within the University community and regional community service
    • Extensive interaction among students, faculty, and financial information professionals.

    Members must attain and maintain a cumulative major and overall GPA of at least 3.0 and engage regularly in professional development and community service activities. Beta Alpha Psi events are open to all students.

    Participation in Beta Alpha Psi events allow you to earn the meritorious Certificate of Professional Development even if you do not meet the GPA requirements for full Beta Alpha Psi membership.
