    Art (Studio Art) Minor

    This 18 credit hour minor program provides studio courses to students majoring outside of the Department of Visual Arts. A minor in studio art will start with foundation studio courses (ART 1010 Drawing I, ART 1020 Two-Dimensional Design & Color Theory, or ART 1030 Three-Dimensional Design) and then proceed with a variety of intermediate and upper-level courses in traditional art media.

    This minor is not available to students majoring in any of the four-year degree programs offered by the Department of Visual Arts. Find more information about academic programs and visual art areas at the Department of Visual Arts.

    • ART 1030 - Three-Dimensional Design

      An introduction to basic theories and principles of the formal and expressive elements of design as expressed in three- dimensional media. Students will develop an understanding of the dynamics of the 3-D object as they explore with various materials and processes.

    • ART 2100 - Life Drawing

      Intermediate studio course in drawing that focuses on the study of the human figure. Students will also explore a variety of drawing materials. Works will be analyzed in individual and group critiques.

      Prerequisite/Corequisite:
      Prerequisite: ART 1010 or permission of Head of the Department of Visual Arts

    • ART 2700 - Ceramics I

      Ceramics I is an introduction to the ceramic process through explorations in both hand building and wheel throwing. Students will learn the basics in glazing and firing while gaining exposure to historical and contemporary ceramic art.

      Prerequisite/Corequisite:
      Prerequisite: ART 1030 with a grade of C or higher or permission of Head of the Department of Visual Arts
